Abroad with SO recommendations
Our take
Hello! This is an extremely exciting post for me. My (22M) GF (22F) has just recently told me she wants to get out of her comfort zone a bit and travel with me. I am so unbelievably excited, and my thoughts and ideas have been racing. With that said, I need some recommendations on where to go. For context, we have between 6-8 days, and would be flying out of Boston, Massachusetts in August.
I have been across much of Europe, with the exception of some heavy hitters like Portugal, much of southern Spain, Italy, Norway, and Greece. I have done a lot of that solo though, and now that she wants to come with me I am not sure of what would be a more romantic, couples destination. I was thinking the Croatian coast (Split down to Dubrovnik and maybe into Montenegro), Porto and Lisbon, Costa Brava in Spain. She wants to be by the ocean, and that’s pretty much it.
Let me know what you think!

- How Should I Spend 2 weeks as a solo traveler after a trip with friends?Hi everyone. I am trying to plan a solo 2-week trip after Croatia this summer and looking for recommendations. For reference, I am a 25-year-old male. Current plan: Portugal with family (June 4–12) Croatia with friends until June 22 After that I want to solo travel for ~2 weeks somewhere nearby without doing expensive long-haul flights to somewhere like Asia. Right now I’m considering places like Montenegro, Slovenia, Albania, or just going to Greece or mayb even Istanbul. I’ve already been to Prague, Vienna, and spent lots of time in Italy as well. Looking for: good solo travel/social atmosphere nice scenery/beaches some nightlife but not only partying not too rushed logistically Honestly open to everything. I'd appreciate any input! submitted by /u/SnooDonuts3819 [link] [comments]
- Having trouble deciding between Croatia and Portugal - May 2026I’m looking to do a solo trip (22F) for a week following graduation. I worked for an airline in college and studied abroad in France so have gotten a good taste for (western) Europe, but I never made it to Portugal or Croatia. I enjoy beautiful scenery, activities (but not crazy hiking), accessible public transport, good food, and not feeling overwhelmed by too many other tourists. I haven’t come up with much of a plan for either place. Would fly into and out of Dubrovnik; would fly into Lisbon and out of Porto. 8 nights. I’m on a mindful budget, and the flight costs are the same. Would appreciate any insight into which location for end of May!! submitted by /u/No_Public_9342 [link] [comments]
- Thoughts on our honeymoon itinerary?Hello! We'll be taking a ~3-week honeymoon this September (maybe into early October). A bit about us: We enjoy walkable cities/towns with nice parks/green spaces, beaches, good food, coffee, wine, and cocktails! We prefer going to a nice wine bar or chill bar/lounge over a club. Right now we're for sure want to go to France and Spain, but are deciding between Italy and Portugal. Here's our rough itinerary: Fly into Paris for 4-5 nights (have been here before) Take the train to Cassis for 3 nights If we choose Italy: Fly to Milan for 3-4 nights Take the train to Bologna for 3-4 nights Fly to Barcelona for 3-4 nights (have been before) Take the train to Valencia (3-4 nights) Fly home (either from Valencia or travel back to Barcelona) If we choose Portugal: Fly from Cassis/Nice to Barcelona Take the train to Valencia Fly to Libson (4-5 nights, have been before) and likely take a day trip to Cascais. Fly home (Southern California) Also open to other city recommendations! Thanks! submitted by /u/tayyylooor [link] [comments]
- Where to go this summer? Open mindedHi, I'm unemployed and looking to take an awesome trip sometime this summer. Really really open to anything from 2 weeks from now till September. Length of trip anywhere from 4-14 nights. I would most likely be solo if traveling in May and June, but would be with my fiance if I go in July-August. Budget for flights around $500 for a weekish, $1200 for 2+ weeks (which is now not looking too great). We/I have been all over - Japan, Mexico, Belize, Canada, western Europe, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Norway. I love both massive cities and nature. I was thinking about going to Vietnam and doing the Hai Giang loop but the weather looks too hot for me. I'm really just looking for an adventure. We/I would be traveling from Boston - where would you like to go if you were in my position? submitted by /u/tengleha01 [link] [comments]
