Amalfi coast or Santorini + other Greek islands?

Our take

Are you torn between the iconic Amalfi Coast and the stunning Greek islands for your July getaway? With plans already set for Positano, you might be wondering if the crowds and prices are worth the experience. While some rave about the charm of Positano and Sorrento, others suggest it can feel overly touristy. Instead, consider a few days in Santorini to check off that bucket list destination, followed by a relaxing escape on a quieter Greek island. Let’s explore the best options for your adventure!

Going on a trip for a week in July and we have refundable hotel and airfare booked for positano. But after chatting with a few friends, I’ve heard mixed reviews on Amalfi coast. Some people stay in sorrento, some highly recommend positano. But after reading threads here it looks like it’s very touristy and not worth the prices and crowds. I’m wondering if maybe it would be better to go to Amalfi coast on a different month.

In contrast, I was thinking to do few days in Santorini (which I know is very touristy but want to check it off the box) and then another Greek island for a couple of days for more R&R. Does anyone have any suggestions? For reference, I’ve traveled to 30 countries, and haven’t hit these places yet since I knew we would eventually get to them.
