Best July holiday destination recommendations outside Europe?
Our take
As summer approaches, the quest for the perfect holiday destination becomes a thrilling adventure in itself! One enthusiastic traveler is seeking recommendations for a three-week getaway in July, expressing a deep love for South East Asia and an appetite for exploration. Having previously visited Japan, Bali, and Thailand, they are now considering Vietnam, despite concerns about heat and humidity during the rainy season. This inquiry not only highlights the joys of travel but also underscores the importance of sharing insights and experiences within the community. It resonates with many who are navigating similar decisions, as seen in articles like Where to go this summer? Open minded and Where in Asia in September?.
Vietnam is indeed an intriguing choice! While the rainy season may deter some travelers, it also presents unique opportunities to experience the country’s lush landscapes and vibrant culture in a less crowded environment. The monsoon brings refreshing rains that can cool off the oppressive heat, making it a perfect backdrop for those who enjoy activities like walking and exploring. With stunning destinations such as the serene Ha Long Bay, the historic streets of Hoi An, and the bustling energy of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam offers an abundance of experiences that cater to active travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation.
However, the traveler’s preference for a non-party atmosphere opens the door to various other exciting destinations that share the same adventurous spirit without the nightlife hustle. Countries like Cambodia, known for its awe-inspiring temples and rich history, or the Philippines, famous for its stunning islands and crystal-clear waters, could provide equally captivating experiences. These locations not only offer beautiful landscapes but also a chance to immerse oneself in local cultures, indulge in delightful cuisines, and enjoy tranquil spa experiences—perfect for a couple looking to escape the party scene.
In light of the evolving travel landscape, it’s fascinating to see how preferences shape our holiday choices. The desire for active exploration and authentic experiences reflects a broader shift in travel trends, where travelers prioritize meaningful connections over traditional tourist hot spots. As people seek to create unforgettable memories and forge deeper connections with the places they visit, the community plays an essential role in sharing valuable insights. It’s vital that we continue to support one another in our travel endeavors, just as this traveler hopes to receive recommendations from their peers.
So, as we dive headfirst into planning our summer adventures, let's embrace the spirit of exploration! What hidden gems or lesser-known destinations do you think should be on the radar for active travelers seeking a mix of adventure and relaxation? The world is vast and full of possibilities, waiting for us to discover new paths and create vibrant stories. Let’s keep the conversation going and inspire each other to dream big!
Hi all
Looking for recommendations for a 3 week holiday in July time. We absolutely love South East Asia. Already been to Japan x2, Bali x2 (so probably will avoid travelling there again too soon) and Thailand. We loved Mexico. We are holding off on South America for now (maybe a trip in the future)
Toying with the idea of travelling to Vietnam, however I've read its extremely hot, humid and in the middle of rainy season in some areas which isn't ideal. But if anyone feels that its still a reasonable destination to travel to during this time - please let me know!
Open to any other suggestions really. For context, me and my partner are fairly active, love walking, exploring as well as spas and good food. Not massively into partying so happy to give that a miss. We don't mind the idea of travelling around or island hopping.
Looking forward to recommendations

- Where to go this summer? Open mindedHi, I'm unemployed and looking to take an awesome trip sometime this summer. Really really open to anything from 2 weeks from now till September. Length of trip anywhere from 4-14 nights. I would most likely be solo if traveling in May and June, but would be with my fiance if I go in July-August. Budget for flights around $500 for a weekish, $1200 for 2+ weeks (which is now not looking too great). We/I have been all over - Japan, Mexico, Belize, Canada, western Europe, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Norway. I love both massive cities and nature. I was thinking about going to Vietnam and doing the Hai Giang loop but the weather looks too hot for me. I'm really just looking for an adventure. We/I would be traveling from Boston - where would you like to go if you were in my position? submitted by /u/tengleha01 [link] [comments]
- Where in Asia in September?Hi all, I'm considering a destination for a short 7-10 day trip (excluding travel time) at the end of September as I have two weeks leave them (Sep 20 - Oct 2). As this is not a lot of time, it's most practical I visit Asia to minimise my transit time and maximise my holiday. I'm also looking for something not too expensive as I have another much bigger trip in January that is my main focus. As I live in Australia, Asia is the most practical (just been to NZ recently, so excluding that as an option for now). Here are my requirements: - Not Japan, going there in January. - No where too hot. I already live in a very hot part of Australia. I used to have a lot more heat tolerance, but I'm over it. I'm worried SEA will still be a bit too hot and wet this time of year. - Had been considering China or Vietnam, but worried Vietnam may still be a bit too hot. - I am thinking of doing this as my first ever tour. I've always travelled by my own arrangements, but I don't see myself getting sufficient time to plan this trip. If I do a tour, I probably wouldn't do China or Vietnam as I'd much rather do them on my own terms (or Thailand, or Malaysia, or Singapore, or Korea, for that matter. Just too easy to do on my own). I'm really interested in Mongolia, but it doesn't seem like there are any group tours that fit my dates. Uzbekistan is another place of high interest, but also not sure if it's worth it for the time frame and travel time is starting to push it a bit. Considering India or Phillipines, though worried about the weather in the Phillipines. Any suggestions for destinations welcome. Likewise, good tour agencies. I'm considering Intrepid or G Adventures, but apprehensive. Don't want a big group. I'm 40, so I don't want to be with only people in their 20s, and likewise don't want to be with only people in their 60s. Happy for a mixed bag of ages though. Bonus points for women only tours. submitted by /u/Capable-Toe-9841 [link] [comments]
