booked through hostelworld, property charged me separately

Our take

Hey, fellow travelers! I booked a stay in The Hague through Hostelworld, paying the deposit upfront, but I was unexpectedly charged the full amount by the hotel—despite the booking stating I'd pay on-site. In a panic, I canceled my reservation while searching for help. Now I'm worried about getting my money back and whether this will turn into an expensive lesson. Has anyone else faced this situation? I tried calling the hotel, but it's late and I’m feeling overwhelmed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

i’m traveling to the hague tomorrow, booked through hostel world, paid the deposit (charged by hosteworld) was just charged by my accommodation (hotel) for what would be the total amount plus taxes/deposit). the booking said it would be paid on site. in a panic i cancelled the booking, while looking for the help/faq site. i was hyperventilating and just totally panicking. immediately rebooked.

does anyone have any experience with this? will i get my money back? is this just going to be a super expensive learning experience? which i really can’t afford

i tried calling the hotel, bit its nearly 2 am, of course they didn’t answer. hostelworld isn’t much help.

(it’s supposeddly free cancellation for 72h before arrival, after that it’s the first night paid. as i can understand from the booking.)

please help.
