Braşov, Romania + junii festival!

Our take

I just returned from an unforgettable adventure in Brașov, Romania, where I experienced the vibrant Junii Festival! This incredible 300-year-old tradition celebrates the moment when people from outside the medieval walls are welcomed into the city for a day filled with festivities. The highlight of the night is the epic mountain gathering, featuring games like throwing a mace into the air! I also enjoyed a thrilling 4x4 mountain tour that ended with a breathtaking picnic.

I just got back from Brașov, Romania for the Junii festival and it was incredible. It’s this 300-year-old tradition where the people who lived outside the old medieval walls were finally let into the city for the day. Then at night, everyone goes up into the mountains to party and play games to test their courage like throwing a mace (it looks like a medieval club) high in the air and trying to catch it!

I also did a 4x4 mountain tour in a jeep that ended with a picnic, and honestly, it was some of the best views I’ve ever seen. The mountains around Brașov are beautiful. I’d definitely recommend taking a tour or even renting a 4x4 yourself if you want to drive.

The city center is great too; it still has that total medieval feel where you can see the old walls and visit the towers and citadels. It does get a bit touristy, but if you go in the morning it’s totally fine. Plus, they have their own "Hollywood" sign on the mountain. All in all, it’s an amazing city and I’d really recommend checking it out!
