Carry-on Chaos: Lost Luggage Woes on Air Canada's Punta Cana Route

Hey everyone!

3 min readtravel

Oh no! It sounds like your epic adventure to Punta Cana got a little bit of a bumpy start, and that’s definitely not the kind of energy we want for a dream trip! When you’re setting out for sunshine and good times, the last thing you want is carry-on chaos. It’s a bummer when your plans get interrupted, especially when you’re packed and ready to dive into all the fun. We totally get how frustrating it must be to land in paradise and then have to wait for your essentials, and even worse when things go missing!

Your journey from YVR to PUJ sounds like it hit a few unexpected detours. Being told you have to gate-check your carry-ons because of space is already a bit of a buzzkill, and then to find out your luggage is delayed *before* takeoff? That’s a whole new level of travel drama! And when customer service promises delivery by 7 PM, only for it not to happen, and then you’re waiting until the next day… that’s a lot of lost sunshine time. The worst part, though, has to be finding out that once your luggage finally arrived, some of your precious items were missing and everything looked like it had been through a whirlwind. It’s totally understandable to feel disappointed when you’re looking forward to rocking certain outfits or using your favorite hair tools, only to discover they’re gone.

It’s a tough spot to be in when you’ve had this experience and you’re not sure what your next steps are. We’re sending you all the positive energy and hope you can find a way to get this sorted out. While Air Canada’s baggage services might be saying there’s nothing they can do, remember that your experience matters! Sometimes, persistent follow-up and clearly outlining the missing items and the inconvenience caused can make a difference. Keep a record of everything – dates, times, names, and what was lost. You’ve got this! We hope the rest of your Punta Cana adventure is filled with nothing but pure joy and unforgettable moments. Let’s turn this around and make it an epic comeback!

Once reaching YUL (had a 1 hour layover) and boarding the plane, we got notified our carry on luggage was delayed (before take off). As a result, our carry ons did not reach PUJ at the same time we did. Customer service PUJ told us our carry ons will be delivered to our accommodation at 7pm that same day, however they didn’t. We were the told our carry ons…
