Colombia 4 week travel itinerary
Our take
Hi everyone, me (35m) and my partner (33f) (both Australian) are planning a 4 week trip to Colombia as part of an extended Latin America trip. We enjoy nature, hiking, adventures, and culture - we also like cities but sometimes not the busy crowded ones.
Our current plan has us flying into Bogota and flying out of Medellin (to Ecuador). Weâve tried to include a mix of the usual spots (Medellin, Bogota, Caribbean coast), whilst also prioritising some more interesting nature areas (Los Nevados and Tatacoa desert). We originally had the Pacific Coast/Nuqui but have removed it due to logistics.
Any recommendations for whether this route works? Is it too many spots for 4 weeks? Any insight into the places we have listed would be great (positive or negative).
⢠âď¸ BogotĂĄ
⢠Villa de Leyva
⢠Barichara
⢠San Gil
⢠âď¸ Santa Marta
⢠Minca
⢠Tayrona
⢠âď¸ MedellĂn
⢠JardĂn
⢠Manizales
⢠Los Nevados
⢠Cali âď¸
Edit: removed Tatacoa desert as it takes too long to get there and back

- Colombia travel itinerary. Possible to hit Cartagena, Santa Marta, and Medellin? So I will be starting off in Cali Colombia going with my girlfriend. So I planned on starting off going to Cartagena for a few days. 2-3 is what Iâve gathered would be a good amount of time to see the city , go to an island, party. Then from there go to Santa Marta for about 2 days. One day to go to tayrona and another day to see and party in Santa Marta. Has anyone ever been to Minca ? Would it also be cool to see and sleep over in the hostel in minca? After 2 days and possible one in Minca I would like to go to Medellin for about 4 days before returning to Cali. Does this sound like a good plan? Can anyone help or give advice I would greatly appreciate it submitted by /u/paperclipboi [link] [comments]
- I have about 7 days to spare in South America. Where should I go?Hey fellow travellers! Long story short, my wife and I are travelling to Brazil in March/April next year to visit some friends and family. We've already been to Brazil before, absolutely love the country, and plan on exploring different areas. This time around however, we really feel like adding another country to the itinerary, and seeing a different side of South America. Ideally, this is what I'm looking for: â Somewhere that won't make us feel like "we haven't even scratched the surface" after 7 days. â A country that might have a cool mix of culture/history/great food/safety â Ideally, something that won't break the bank, as we'll already spend a lot in Brazil. â Good weather around March/April. Our ideas so far: â Colombia: We feel like we could maybe squeeze BogotĂĄ/MedellĂn/Cartagena/Salento area within about a week. We are both coffee junkies, so the coffee region alone sounds really interesting. â Mexico: I know, technically not South America. We are considering CDMX & Oaxaca, though we might feel like we are missing a lot... Are any of these great choices given our preferences? Do you have any other suggestions that might be even better for us? Thank you! submitted by /u/DundieAwardsWinner [link] [comments]
- Opinions on Colombia for a girls trip?Hello! I am looking to plan a girls trip to Latin America and have been considering Colombia as a potential destination, but I have some reservations as we will have some inexperienced travelers with us and I know Colombia can require some extra caution. We were considering starting in Cartagena and then visiting the coffee region. I would absolutely love to visit Colombia but I am trying to be realistic for what makes sense for the group. For anyone who has been do you think this is a good destination choice or should we look to other countries? Any recommendations? We will have a mix of Spanish speakers and non Spanish speakers as well as experienced travelers and non experienced travelers. For reference, this will be for early next year, likely January but could be changed over to March. For budget we prefer a mid range budget and will be flying from the US. - Planning a 6-day Colombia trip and would love some local advice â MedellĂn + CartagenaPlanning a 6-day Colombia trip and would love some local advice â MedellĂn + Cartagena My friend and I are visiting soon(end of april) from toronto and currently thinking of splitting the trip as roughly 4 days in MedellĂn and 2 days in Cartagena (more like 1.5 days in Cartagena plus a Rosario Islands day trip). Current rough plan: Fly into Cartagena Go to MedellĂn for most of the trip Do GuatapĂŠ as a day trip Possibly visit a coffee farm near MedellĂn Return to Cartagena for the last part of the trip Rosario Islands boat day on the Cartagena side A few things weâd really appreciate advice on: Is 4 days MedellĂn / 2 days Cartagena the right split, or would you change it? Is GuatapĂŠ worth it, or is it overhyped? Any good coffee farm experiences near MedellĂn that are actually worth doing? Best areas to stay for first-timers? Weâre currently thinking El Poblado in MedellĂn and GetsemanĂ in Cartagena. For accommodation, what would you recommend between hostels, Airbnbs, and hotels? We care about location, safety, convenience, and decent value. Budget is about $500 USD per person total for 6 days just for stay. Any places with great social vibe but still comfortable/private enough for two friends traveling together? Best food spots we shouldnât miss in either city? Open to local food, seafood, steakhouses, late-night food, cafĂŠs, etc. Any bars/clubs/lounge spots worth going to in MedellĂn and Cartagena, especially if we want a fun night out but not total chaos/tourist traps? Best Rosario Islands boat tours or ways to do it without ending up on a bad overcrowded party boat? Is it easy/safe enough to get around with Uber/Cabify/taxis in both cities? Anything to know about airport transfers or moving around at night? Any scams, areas, or situations we should really avoid and be mindful of? Best SIM/eSIM options for tourists right now? Would also love any âdonât miss thisâ recommendations for either city, especially things that are actually worth the time and not just hyped on Instagram. Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/rizzledrip23 [link] [comments]
