Our Take: Epic Welsh Adventure: Castles & Scenery by Public Transport!

Hey there, fellow adventurers! We’ve got a super exciting question from one of our amazing community members asking about tackling the epic landscapes and historic castles of Wales, all while keeping things breezy with public transport or group tours. Visiting solo from the US and not quite ready to dive into UK driving rules? We totally get it! Let's break down this adventure. Wales is absolutely bursting with charm, and the idea of exploring its wonders without a car is totally within reach. For anyone dreaming of uncovering ancient castles and soaking in breathtaking scenery, the good news is that both North and South Wales offer incredible experiences that can be enjoyed car-free. It’s all about choosing the vibe that sparks your curiosity the most!

When it comes to public transport, Wales has made some awesome strides, and for a castle and scenery-focused trip, it’s definitely a viable and often enchanting way to go. North Wales, with its dramatic mountains and iconic castles like Conwy, Caernarfon, and Harlech, is particularly well-connected by train and bus routes. You can easily hop between these historic gems and discover stunning natural beauty along the way. Imagine the energy of arriving at a majestic castle, ready to explore its secrets, all powered by the ease of public transport! South Wales also boasts its own share of magnificent castles and beautiful coastlines, and while the network might feel a little different, it’s still very doable to plan a fantastic itinerary. Group tours can also be a fantastic option if you’re looking for a more structured adventure, offering opportunities to connect with new friends and have all the logistics handled. It’s all about finding your perfect squad and embarking on a journey together!

Now, the question of whether to brave driving for a “better experience” is a common one. While driving certainly offers ultimate freedom and the ability to discover those hidden, off-the-beaten-path spots, it’s absolutely not the *only* way to have an epic time in Wales. Your comfort and confidence are key to enjoying your solo adventure! Embracing public transport, or joining a tour, can actually free up your mental energy to truly immerse yourself in the experience. Think of all the extra time you’ll have to soak in the views, chat with locals, and maybe even learn a Welsh phrase or two! The journey itself can become part of the adventure, with scenic train rides and bus journeys offering a unique perspective. So, while driving is an option, don't feel like it's the only path to an unforgettable Welsh escapade. Your solo journey by public transport or with a group is poised to be absolutely glowing and full of discovery! Dream big, embrace the possibilities, and get ready for an unstoppable adventure!

From travel

Hello, I'm interested in visiting Wales for a couple of weeks during summer (solo female traveler). Will be visiting from US. Not comfortable with driving as per UK rules yet. So, wondering if it would be worthwhile traveling either North or South Wales just by using public transportation (which one is better) (or) any suggestions for group tours? Preference is visit more castles and scenery.

Or should I opt into driving and get familiar with it to get a better experience?
