From Zero to Style Icon: Finding My Fashion Confidence at College
My fashion confidence during and after college.

This story is an absolute glow-up, and we're here for every bit of it! It’s so inspiring to hear how finding your authentic style can unlock a whole new level of confidence. Starting out, it sounds like the environment wasn't exactly a runway for self-expression, but that spark of wanting to explore fashion was always there. It takes real courage to be the first to step outside the box, especially when you don't see many people around you doing the same. But guess what? That desire to shine and experiment is the first step to becoming a main character in your own life!

The journey really picked up speed when you landed at an HBCU, and your roommate saw the vision! That free photoshoot was such a brilliant boost – sometimes all you need is a little encouragement and a chance to see yourself through someone else's eyes to start believing in your own style. Then came the fashion show, and wow, what an epic moment! Being asked to participate, especially when you’d been a homebody, shows how much your confidence was already growing and how others were noticing your unique vibe. Stepping out onto that stage, feeling that energy and seeing yourself shine – that's the kind of experience that truly transforms you. It’s like a switch flips, and suddenly you’re ready to embrace your boldest self.

Even though college is behind you now, the lessons learned and the friendships forged are pure gold. This story is a powerful reminder that your environment shouldn't limit your dreams or how you choose to express yourself. It’s all about finding your squad, the people who lift you up and celebrate your individuality. So, keep that energy going, stay thurl, and always, always be confident in your own shine. The world is ready for your style, and you've got this!

Mannnnn…exploring my fashion side took a lot outta me. Where I’m from, youngbouls don’t usually dress the way I wanted to or do now, so I didn’t really have too many people to encourage me to embrace that side. That changed when I went to an HBCU.

About a month or so after dropping down in that jawn my roommate saw the vision i didn’t and decided to give me a free shoot (he was a photographer). I just had to show up after class w/an outfit (1st group of photos). That helped boost my confidence a lot.
