Have you ever experienced disappearance of an airline?

Our take

Have you ever faced the unexpected disappearance of an airline? I recently encountered this while traveling from Seville to Warsaw for a business trip with a personal twist. After several rebookings, I received an email on Thursday that my flight from Munich to Warsaw was canceled without explanation. To my surprise, I later discovered that the airline I was originally booked with, Lufthansa CityLine, had ceased operations on the very day of my travel.

OK! It was not anything horrible! I was supposed to fly from Seville to Warsaw on Saturday April 18th. I bought the tickets in January - business trip but with a bit of a private weekend. The flight was rebooked at least twice in the meantime but finally with a shorter layover in Munich so I didn't mind. On Thursday afternoon I got an e-mail that the Munich-Warsaw flight was cancelled without an explanation. I was soon rebooked with an extra stop at Frankfurt and a morning flight to Warsaw. Lufthansa - from which I bought the tickets - did not offer a hotel so I booked one myself. And then I looked up and found out that the airline I was supposed to fly with - Lufthansa CityLine which is not Lufthansa City Airlines, those are OK - ceased operations on... Saturday April 18th. Fortunately, I lost only a Saturday evening in Warsaw but I assume I will get some compensation. Have you ever been through something similar?
