How bad is the overnight bus from Budapest to Prague compared to a 6 AM flight?

Our take

Hey everyone! I’m weighing my travel options from Budapest to Prague and could really use your insights. The 6 AM flight seems convenient, but it means waking up super early and navigating the airport in the middle of the night, which doesn’t sound fun. On the other hand, I’m considering an overnight bus with RegioJet or FlixBus, leaving around 11 PM and arriving by 6 AM. For those who've taken the bus, how comfortable and punctual is it?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to decide how to travel from Budapest to Prague and would appreciate some advice.

The flight option leaves Budapest at around 6 AM, which means I would probably have to wake up extremely early, get to the airport in the middle of the night, and still sleep pretty badly anyway.

Because of that, I’m considering taking an overnight bus instead. There are options with RegioJet leaving around 11 PM and arriving around 6 AM, and FlixBus options leaving close to midnight and arriving around 6 AM.

For those who have done the Budapest–Prague route by overnight bus: how comfortable and punctual is it? Is it realistic to get at least some sleep, or would you still choose the 6 AM flight instead?

Thanks!
