I've never been anywhere in Asia. Is Bangkok a good place to start?

Our take

Are you ready to embark on an exciting adventure in Asia? Bangkok could be the perfect starting point for your exploration! With its vibrant culture, rich history, and stunning temples, this city offers a unique blend of experiences. While it’s known for its nightlife, there's so much more to discover, including museums, local cuisine, and beautiful parks. Plus, your familiarity with heat and navigating diverse environments will serve you well. Let’s dive into the wonders of Bangkok and see if it matches your travel dreams!

I'm very interested in seeing parts of Asia for myself, but I'm cautious about taking on more than I can handle. Specifically Thailand seems a little intimidating but I'd love to visit. And since I've found a direct flight connection from home to Bangkok I'm thinking about planning a trip.

I've travelled a lot in Europe and North America, and once to Australia. The "closest" I've been to Southeast Asia is probably Hawai'i, which I adore. I can handle heat and humidity having lived in Texas, and I've navigated unfamiliar linguistic landscapes before.

Things I seek out when travelling: museums, historical/cultural sites, natural beauty, local food.

I know Bangkok is famous for its nightlife but that doesn't interest me. I also don't eat seafood, which I believe is ubiquitous in SE Asia generally.

Can anyone offer any advice on whether Bangkok is a good place to visit for a first-timer in Asia? Thanks in advance!
