I visited Derinkuyu in Cappadocia, Turkey, and it was one of the most surreal places I’ve ever been.

Our take

I recently explored Derinkuyu in Cappadocia, Turkey, and it was an unforgettable experience! This underground city felt like stepping into a surreal, forgotten world, where history whispers through the narrow tunnels and steep stairs. I didn’t take many photos because I was completely immersed in the moment, trying to grasp the reality of a place where people once lived for extended periods. The atmosphere was so captivating that it transformed my visit from a typical tourist attraction into a profound adventure beneath the earth.

I didn’t take many photos inside because I was honestly just in the moment and a bit overwhelmed by how it felt being underground.
Walking through the narrow tunnels and steep stairs of Derinkuyu made it hard to fully process that people once lived here for long periods.
It felt less like a tourist site and more like stepping into a quiet, forgotten world carved deep into the earth.
