 | This is a country I’ve wanted to visit for so long, but the one thing that always held me back was how expensive everyone said it was. Now that I’m halfway through my trip, here’s my honest take: This place feels like another planet. The landscapes are unreal views you genuinely won’t find anywhere else on Earth. It often feels like there’s a path already laid out for tourists, and most of us just follow it because we don’t know any alternative. If you decide to wander off, you’re doing it at your own risk, this country is wild, with very little civilization in many areas. Tours are EXPENSIVE, and you’ll need them for many of the classic “Icelandic experiences.” On top of that, a lot of the main attractions (waterfalls, hikes, canyons) charge around $25 USD(even if you’re only there for 10 minutes). Campsites have been a pretty good experience overall, but I can’t imagine what they’re like in peak summer. So far, most kitchens have been small and not the cleanest and that’s with relatively few people around. The weather here is no joke. It changes constantly, and conditions can get intense fast wind, snow, rain, sometimes all in the same hour. You really have to respect it and plan accordingly, because it can impact everything from driving to simply stepping outside. Yes, it’s expensive. Yes, it can feel a bit restrictive and unpredictable. But the raw beauty of this country makes it all worth it. Every drive, every stop, every view reminds you why you came. One in a life time kind of place.
