Inspo vs. My Take: How to Layer This?
Our take

| *inspiration is picture 3 and taken from Velasca’s S/S 26 Lookbook. This is honestly one of my favorite fits I have ever worn. I have been obsessed with the latest Velasca lookbook, so I treated this as an early test run for where I want my style to go this summer. If you’ve seen my previous posts, you know I love a good tonal palette for my fits. This one is a nice mix of chocolate brown, cream, and espresso. I’ve also made sure the tones are cooler-leaning and the whole look feels incredibly cohesive and intentional. The cream stripes provide just enough contrast to break up the brown without the harshness of a pure white. It gives off an earthy, sophisticated vibe that feels very grounded (and I just love the espresso/chocolate browns). The lookbook pairs their t-shirt with a cream linen blazer, but I haven't been able to find a layer that works for the polo as well. I love the V-shaped silhouette created by the high-rise trousers and tucked in shirt too much to hide it under another layer. Plus, I think a wide Johnny collar like this usually fights with blazer lapels. It ends up clashing too much. I am looking for ideas on how to layer this for a cooler evening without losing the proportions or the vibe. I tried a shawl cardigan and my brown suede jacket - neither one hit the mark. Maybe a light cardigan without any collar? What would you add to this? - The Mediterranean BreakWith spring right around the corner I wanted to lean into a brighter palette. The core of this look is the navy on navy layering where the heavy wool of the jacket plays against the soft knit of the polo. It is a classic Italian move that lets the texture do the talking since the colors match so closely. Breaking that dark upper half with the off white trousers was a nod to Mediterranean tailoring. It creates a sharp separation that lets each piece stand out while keeping the overall vibe cohesive. The silhouette follows my usual formula of a boxy cropped jacket paired with high rise double pleated pants. That balance keeps the proportions in check and prevents the look from feeling too top heavy. It sits right in that Velasca sweet spot between workwear and tailoring. The only thing I would change is the belt. This one feels a bit too corporate and I think a textured nubuck would have softened the transition much better. I also think the jacket hardware is a little loud. If the buttons were more subtle the whole look would probably flow a lot more cleanly. - A Midsummer Knit’s DreamFirst really hot day of April, so I treated this as a bit of an early test run for where I want spring and summer to go. Last year I leaned pretty heavily on shirts, so this felt like one of my first real attempts at building around a knit top instead. With no layers to rely on, I wanted the silhouette and proportions to do the work. The high-rise pleated trousers help elongate the legs, and paired with the lightly tucked polo, they create more of that V-shaped line I’m always after. What makes it work for me is the texture. It’s a simple combination, but the contrast between the knit polo and the smoother white trousers keeps it from feeling flat. I also kept the palette tight with navy, white, and dark brown - very much in line with the more restrained, Italian/Velasca approach I’ve been drawn to lately. The Johnny collar is a small detail, but one that makes this feel noticeably different from the shirt-heavy looks I wore most of last season. I really like how this one turned out!
