last minute trip to Guatemala ( next week )
Our take
hey guys, I am planning on last-minute trip to Guatemala and I would love some feedback on my itinerary.
right now, I am thinking starting with Antigua 4 days (arrival, exploring, cafés, etc.) then 2 days hiking Acatenango, then I go straight to Lake AtitlÔn am staying 6 nights, then go back to Guatemala City and take a flight to Flores and stay 3 nights tikal included, then I end my trip at El paredón to chill for 3 nights.
does this spacing make sense or am i spending too long/not enough time in those places?
for Lake AtitlĆ”n and Iām not sure where to base myself,
iāve seen San Pedro, San Marcos, Panajache. should i stay in one place?
I will be arriving super late 11 pm in Guatemala airport. Iām wondering whatās the best way to get to Antigua?
any advice or adjustments would be really appreciatedšš¼

- 3 weeks solo - Guatemala or southern Mexico?Hello, I've got 3 weeks to travel late July early August and wanted some advice. As of now, I'm leaning towards GUA but feel free to change my mind. I do love myself some Mezcal. See below layout for about me. Basic trip layout ATL/ORL (depending on work) to GUA then straight to Antigua Acatenango hike social hostel maybe a coffee farm 4 days? Lake Atitlan Panajachel (recommended to me) San Pedro social hostel might do the volcano hike here as well if I'm feeling it Chichicastenango markets San Marcos La Laguna? reset day 5 days? Semuc Champley and Lanquin really long shuttle... Jungle hostel Cave tours, pools, views, river tubing 3 days? Flores Tikal sunset tour buffer day I've heard it's annoying to get here and tourism is crazy so might cut it and go somewhere random... El Mirador hike in explore hike out with tour these usually run about 5 days, I like this sort of stuff and am in shape to do it so why not fly flores GUA then back to ATL/ORL then back to uni Recommendations, advice or info about Mexico would be most welcome. (Good local food/bars would be amazing as with good view spots etc) will prob take chicken bus to save money or get myself a dirtbike A little about myself I'm 20m and live in the USA. My family is from Czech Republic. This trip will mark country 30 most of those being in eastern Europe which I backpacked 2 summers ago. This will be my first time solo. To be totally honest my Spanish is absolutely terrible. Moneys tight For those of you wondering how I've done 30 countries by 19. I work as a bouncer during school and construction (welder) + golf course (double full time) in summers. Pretty much all my money goes to ROTH IRA, then dirtbike, then travel. - Guatemala/Acatenango - How to pack?My friend and I are planning to visit Guatemala for a week in November, mainly to hike Acatenango! Weāre staying a few days in Antigua and then a few days at Lake Atitlan. Iām a huge planner and the logistics of luggage/packing is stressing me out. I was planning to bring a 35L backpack (Cotopaxi Alpa) and small day pack for the entire trip. After researching, it looks like the 35L is what I would need for the volcano hike, but I donāt want to be hiking with a weekās worth of clothes/toiletries/etc. Do people normally leave things at their accommodation in Antigua? Iād like to keep my luggage to the big backpack and a small day bag, but Iām considering bringing a smaller backpack (20-25L) for the hike. If anyone has any recommendations on what to do, that would be awesome! submitted by /u/geese1964 [link] [comments]
- MĆ©xico, Belize, Guatemala Itinerary RecommendationsHi everyone, Iām currently planning a trip to central america in november 2026 and would love to get some feedback on my current itinerary. For reference: I am m/25 and would like to mainly sleep in hostels. I have some experience from backpacking SEA and would love to experience similar vibes here and there. ā 1. Does this route make sense logistically? Are the travel times between cities realistic? Is it too stressful? I enjoy seeing a lot, but I donāt want to spend my entire vacation just sitting in trains/cars or rushing from one landmark to the next. What should I adjust? Are there any places where Iām staying too long, or not long enough? Am I missing any highlights? What about safety concern along the route? Iām open to any suggestions, whether itās regarding the pace, specific locations, or local travel tips. Thanks in advance for your help! submitted by /u/nloeken [link] [comments]
- I'm planning 10 days in El Salvador, then 6/7 Days in Guatemala. Can i do a day trip to Nicaragua, Belize, Honduras, Mexico?Okay, i have a lot of questions and need some help cause im not too experienced with travelling and don't really know where to look to answer my questions and figured some people here might be able to guide me and give suggestions. I'll try my best to make this an more organized post lol. 28F, white, solo travelling (will be 29 once this trip arrives). I'll be going in end of August, beginning of September and I'm not giving myself longer than 15-16 days because... work, boooo lol. But i want to get as many countries in as i can since i'll be in the area. I know i cant go to ALL of these countries in just 15 days, and i want to actually soak up the places and not leave feeling like i barely saw anything cause i was so rushed and it all passed me by, so i recognize i may not end up going to more than just El Salvador and Guatemala, but i figured i'd ask if anyone thinks a day trip or 2 to the surrounding countries would be doable or worth it - and if so, which ones and what i should see to make a day trip worth it. I have a lot of passion about travelling and love solo travelling so lay it on me!! So i'm starting in El Salvador with friends and some of them are from there (so while i may go off on my own for a day or 2, i'll otherwise have a great tour guide, so im leaning more on reddit and research for the other countries!), then im gunna go on my own to, I think, Guatemala. I don't want to just stay in 1 place though, i want to EXPLORE. In El Salvador, i'll definitely be seeing San Salvador. Where else might be worth renting a car for to go north of the country? Is there a boat over to Nicaragua for a day trip? Honduras day trip? As for Guatemala, I've heard of Antigua and Flores to visit, and i noticed Flores is pretty close to Belize, so i'm thinking if I start down south of guatemala then make my way up to flores, i could do some sort of tiny trip to Belize from there, then make my way home or something. I don't ONLY want to see the places EVERYONE goes to, you know? I want to leave the city im staying in and explore other parts of the country that are a near by drive and find some special things and places that haven't lost it's charm because of tourists. I want to see that big volcano but don't know where it is, ruins, beautiful waterfalls, forests, and hikes. Is Guatemala the kind of place to fly from place to place in or are there busses i could take from Antigua to Flores or literally anywhere or something? Would a hostel be safe in these areas? What suggestions would anyone have for this timeline im going for? What places should i avoid altogether to stay safe? Anyway, i think this gets my intention across. I know i cant see all of the places but maybe a few day trips to the country over is more doable than i imagine. Just looking for all of the possibilities to choose from!
