Madrid Magic: Our Vibrant Finale to a Spanish Adventure!

Wow, what an epic adventure through Spain, and Madrid? It totally brought the energy for our grand finale! Even though it was our second time exploring this amazing city, coming from the beautiful vibes of Granada and Sevilla felt like stepping into a whole new level of excitement. Puerta del Sol buzzed with a different kind of energy, a little more crowded, yeah, but in the best way possible! It’s that amazing shift that reminds you how much variety there is to discover. We loved soaking it all in, from the lively streets to the incredible food scene. Our stay at the Thompson Hotel was pure gold again, its central spot making every adventure super easy to start. Grabbing some local ham, olives, and a bottle of Ribera wine to enjoy on our balcony was the perfect little break, a moment of pure sunshine amidst the city's glow.

Let’s talk FOOD! Madrid truly shines when it comes to delicious eats. Compared to the other cities, the restaurant options here are next-level amazing. We had some unforgettable meals that powered our explorations. Casa Macareno, Angelita Madrid, and Astor Gastro-place were absolute highlights – seriously, those pork ribs at Astor? Unstoppable! While we had a slight miss with Posada de la Villa (that lamb was a little too salty for our taste), it didn't dim our overall excitement for Madrid's culinary scene. It’s all part of the adventure, right? Discovering new flavors and sharing those moments is what it's all about.

But the absolute highlight, the moment that made our Madrid experience truly unforgettable, was a surprise encounter with royalty! We were just heading over to the Royal Palace for a quick photo op when, BAM! We arrived during the King of Spain’s reception for the President of Portugal. Talk about main character energy! We stayed to watch the incredible parade, with soldiers in stunning traditional uniforms, magnificent cavalry, and cannons being pulled by horse-drawn carriages. It was a spectacular display, a burst of history and tradition that felt so special to witness. It was the perfect, unexpected flourish to wrap up our Spanish journey, filling us with so much positive energy and a feeling of being completely unstoppable. Madrid, you’ve got our hearts, and we’re already dreaming of our next visit!

From travel

This is the final leg of our trip, following two nights in Granada and three in Sevilla (separate posts). Even though this was our second time in Madrid, the transition from the south was noticeable. The area around Puerta del Sol is more crowded and—you could say—livelier than Sevilla, but we enjoyed the change of pace and the variety of things to do and eat.
