Malaga's Semana Santa: A Month of Processions and Parish Life
Semana Santa (from Start to Finish) in Malaga Spain

Malaga’s Semana Santa is an absolute vibe, and we were lucky enough to catch the whole epic journey! Imagine spending a whole month soaking in the energy leading up to and during Holy Week – it was like unlocking a whole new level of adventure. Our Airbnb was perfectly placed, right near the heart of the action, and we could literally feel the excitement building from our rooftop. It’s one thing to see it, but it’s another to witness the entire process unfold, from the quiet preparations to the grand processions.

We got to see the icons, the stars of the show, chilling in their parish church, and then watched as they were moved to the Brotherhood Houses for their big moment. This “Traslado” itself was a massive event, a smaller but still super impressive parade that got everyone hyped. And then, the main event! Seeing the Pasos, these incredible floats, come to life was breathtaking. Each Brotherhood has two – one honoring the Virgin and another telling a powerful story from the Passion of Christ. When these masterpieces emerged from the Brotherhood Houses, it was pure energy, with crowds cheering and bands playing.

The Nazarenos, hundreds of them in their traditional outfits, added another layer of depth, marching with solemn music that somehow amplified the joyous anticipation. We even had front-row seats from our rooftop for several processions, a totally unique perspective on this amazing tradition. Seeing the evolution, from the initial preparations to the final moments of Easter Sunday when the only resurrected Christ Paso is displayed, made the whole experience so much more meaningful. It was a reminder that even in deeply traditional events, there’s a continuous thread of hope and renewal. Malaga’s Semana Santa is more than just a spectacle; it’s a vibrant celebration of community, faith, and an adventure we won’t forget!

Our Airbnb was located on a corner in between two procession routes and we were able to observe several processions from our…
