Mildly Family Friendly Rainforest
Our take
My husband and I are looking for a Central American rainforest to visit with our two children (5 and 2.5 yo) at the end of July for about a week. My 5 yo is really into animals. We love to spend time outside, hiking, water play, etc. We visited Black Rock Lodge in Belize a few years ago and loved that place. We liked that they had on-site wildlife tours (night hike!), that it was small hotel, not commercial, and off the beaten path. We're honestly thinking about going back there but don't love the idea of going to the same place again. Costa Rica has come to mind but I'm worried it will feel way too touristy and busy for me, also more expensive. We like nice and clean, max around $300/night. Don't care about super luxury. I'd also like to minimize the travel to a location within 3 hour drive of the airport. Does anyone have other ideas? We have historically been pretty adventurous travelers. TIA!

- 5-7 Day Trip with Two Kids (14, 11)- Looking for Ideas/Narrowing Down IdeasOur kids are finally old enough where we want to take them somewhere "adventureous" and am looking for advice and guidance. My wife and I are rather athletic so no restrictions there. The oldest is as well. It is the youngest who doesn't quite of the stamina for hiking 6 hours or anything but he is plenty fit to handle shorter burst adventures. We would like to stay in North America. A National PArk sounds great but choosing the right one that fits kids stamina + making it worth it for adults seems hard to me. Like we would love to do the Grand Canyon, but we do not believe the youngest could hike down into it and if we are going to go somewhere like that, we want to do it right. Yellowstone, cruise to Alaska, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico were the initial ideas we had. I figured there were more National Parks that aren't as popular as Yellowstone that I don't know of so please shout them out if they are kid friendly-ish. - Family friendly beach/adventure destinationsLooking into a few different options for my 40th. Thinking we will celebrate in the winter when it’s a little more dreary and cold where we live. We love the beach and outdoor activities. We might travel with my 8 year old son. Haven’t decided yet. He loves water slides and we want to take him snorkeling, mellow hiking, etc. I’ve thought about Costa Rica, but think that might be a lot of travel for just 5-6 days with all 3 of us. Key Largo and Baha Mar in the Bahamas have crossed my mind as well as Bermuda, but Bermuda looks a little pricey. Specific resort recommendations would be helpful!
