Need help with Madeira 9-day itinerary
Our take
Hi guys, I will be going to Madeira this upcoming June from 9th to the 20th.
We will be renting a car so transportation is no issue.
We are planning on staying only in Funchal throughout the duration of our trip, but I am also looking for other options mostly in the northern side of the island to stay at for at least a couple of nights for a different vibe.
I have places pinned down on where I want to go but I am having trouble connecting it so it fits in a day or I just need more activities to fill up our days.
I have Pico Hike, Sao Lourenco Hike, exploring Funchal city as its own day. Places such as Sao Vicente, the Fanal Forest and Cascata dos Anjos pinned down but I don't really know if that is worth the entire day to spend on.
We are looking for places to explore in the city of Funchal, any other cities we may have missed, and something nature related as well.
Any advice/help will be truly appreciated.

- 26m thinking of heading to Madeira soloI’m thinking of heading to Madeira for a solo trip, really want to see all of the main hikes, local towns and culture and have a nice relaxing stay. Obviously it’ll be quite some effort doing the hikes and I’m aware most of the you need a tour to drop off and pick up as I won’t be able to rent a car sadly but I’m just looking for any other recommendations or tips people have for when I visit. Was thinking 2nd week of July this year and either staying in Funchal or one of the other smaller towns more central for easier access to things. Any info or recommendations is appreciated :) submitted by /u/Infinite_Entrance452 [link] [comments]
- Tenerife, Madeira, or the Azores without a car (or somewhere else)? (10–14 days in summer) Hi I’m planning a roughly 14 day vacation between July and September (haven't decided yet) and am torn between the Azores, Madeira, and the Canary Islands (specifically Tenerife). Since I don’t want to rent a car (I have a drivers license, but Ive barely driven in over a decade and had very little practice even before then) Im unsure which destination is best suited for me. I love nature and want to do a lot of hiking, but at the end of the day, good local food is also very important to me. Id also like to spend some time by or in the ocean (though a pure sandy beach isnt particularly important to me). From what I’ve seen and read, tenerife offers very diverse landscapes and is generally warmer, both of which I find extremely tempting. Ive always wanted to see volcanic landscapes. But island hopping is not so easy? What appeals to me about the Azores is the abundance of pure, green nature and the fact that it seems a bit less touristy. However, it seems like it might be very difficult to get around without a car? Island hopping seems easier? Madeira seems to fall somewhere in the middle. Anyone here got some experience with any of these islands? Maybe can give a rough comparison? submitted by /u/Honest-Violinist-448 [link] [comments]
