Orbitz cancellation questions.

Our take

Navigating cancellation questions with Orbitz can be a bit tricky, especially with non-refundable bookings. If you initially booked a hotel room for a bowling tournament and needed to change dates, it’s important to know the policies involved. In this case, after contacting Orbitz and Hilton, you managed to secure a new, refundable reservation while processing a refund for the original booking. If you choose to cancel the new reservation, it’s essential to clarify with Orbitz whether they will reverse the refund.

booked a hotel room from Orbitz that was non refundable and non changeable for a bowling tournament my bowling team is going to. We decided the dates we were going together so I booked the room according to that date. I booked it in January for a date in May. Found out a week ago one of the people going couldn’t get the weekend off (her time off was initially approved when booked).

Called hotel and they were willing to let me change and I just had to pay the difference in price. I booked through Orbitz so the hotel (Hilton) said I needed to change through them.

Contacted Orbitz they said they’d call Hilton and see if we can change the date. Hilton approved but Orbitz told me Hilton said I had to cancel the original reservation and book a totally new prepaid reservation to get a refund. Again I was really just looking to change dates. I did end up booking a new prepaid reservation that is refundable and Orbitz processed a refund for the first reservation.

The new room is a lot more but cheaper through Hilton. If I cancel the new reservation is Orbitz likely to reverse their refund?
