Passport Validity Timeline - Wedding & Name Change
Our take
Just realized I may be in a bit of a pickle. I'll be getting married this November (2026). My passport expires March 2027. I was planning on renewing my passport after my name change following our wedding. Now, we're starting to plan our honeymoon and I'm realizing that the passport being about 4-5 months away from expiration at the time of our honeymoon may be an issue.
Should we just try to plan a U.S. trip? Will I be okay to travel as long as I ensure the country does not require a longer validity (for example I know most of Asia and the Middle East requires at least 6 months).
I don't really want to renew my passport now just to have to renew it again a few months later when my name is changed... but I will if I have to.
ETA: We were originally planning on a 'staycation' more local immediately following the wedding, then a longer Honeymoon sometime in 2027. Now, we're realizing this will be the only time our jobs will care... so we should do the honeymoon immediately after the wedding. Since we've just kind of changed our minds, I hadn't thought of this issue earlier.

- International travel shortly after getting marriedMy passport expires in September of this year. I’m getting married in August. I was going to wait to renew my passport until after getting married since my name will be changing and I do not have any international travel plans. But I just found out I have a work trip in mid September. What is the likelihood I would get a passport with my new name in time? Or should I delay changing my name and renew my passport as is? Edit: wedding is 8/8. Travel date in September is still unknown. Country of residence is US submitted by /u/Ptaylordactyl_ [link] [comments]
- Traveling to the US with visa in maiden name + Marriage Certificate. Recent experiences?Hello all✨ I'm getting married soon and I will be changing my last name. I have a valid US visa in my current passport (maiden name). I plan to travel with my old passport and my marriage certificate (+ translation) to prove the name change. Has anyone done this recently? Any issues at boarding or with CBP? Also, I assume I should book the flights in my maiden name to match the passport? Thanks! 🎀 submitted by /u/Efficient-Oven7985 [link] [comments]
