| | Last month I took a trip to Finland hoping to see the Northern Lights, and I finally did on the last night I was there! I got pretty lucky, because every day the aurora forecast wasn't that good and/or it was cloudy, but I took an aurora hunting tour on the last night and it was really strong. I stayed in Rovaniemi and the average temperatures were just above freezing, which wasn't too bad luckily. 1-4: Northern Lights 5-7: Hike through Korouoma Canyon 8: Dogsled ride 9: Santa's Village + Arctic Circle crossing 10: Reindeer that live at one of the hotels 11: Finnair business class (highly recommend) 12: If you see this Finnair blueberry juice in stores, buy it because it's so good 13: Ice fishing (didn't catch anything) 14: Snowmobiling

- Lapland, FinlandJust got back from Finnish Lapland and I’m still trying to process it. It’s insanely quiet out there. Just snow everywhere, frozen trees, and this constant soft blue light during the day that makes everything look unreal. Dog sledding was probably the highlight, way more physical than I expected, but flying through the forest like that was wild. The cabins were super peaceful too, though at times it felt almost too quiet. The reindeer area and the forest trails felt straight out of a movie. And at night it gets really still, kind of eerie, but also calming at the same time. The craziest part was seeing the northern lights, it doesn’t even look real when it’s happening. Way different from pictures. One thing I didn’t expect was how minimal everything feels. No noise, no distractions, just you and nature. It kind of forces you to slow down. - Norway, Sweden, or Finland for January Northern Lights?Hi everyone, I am planning for a trip to see the Northern Lights in early January next year, and I am debating which country to choose for a 3-4 nights trip. I have not been to any of these countries before, so I would love to hear your thoughts. Right now, I am debating between Oslo and Tromsø or Abisko and Rovaniemi. However, it looks like it may be a bit difficult to get to Abisko since there are no direct flights from Stockholm, and the train ride seems quite long. I will be flying from Paris and will need to head to Austria after spending 3 nights in one of these destinations.
