Please visit Chester! It’s my favourite city in England!

Our take

If you’re looking for an adventure in England, I absolutely recommend visiting Chester! This charming historic town is just under an hour from both Manchester and Liverpool, making it super accessible. With its stunning architecture, vibrant pedestrian area, and delightful shops, Chester invites exploration. Discover Roman ruins, walk the city walls for breathtaking views, and enjoy live music from talented buskers. Don’t miss the beautiful cathedral and engaging museums!

Chester is less than an hour away from Manchester and Liverpool and is a beautiful historic town! It is also super easy to visit north wales from Chester by train, another fantastic part of the UK. There is a large pedestrianised area with these historic rows with two levels of shops (there is another path you can climb up with more shops). The architecture is amazing I love it, there’s usually buskers playing great music also. It has been a major historic city since Roman times, with a roman amphitheater and numerous ruins around the city. You can walk the walls of the city with nice views over the city and river. You can also visit the castle which has fairly irregular opening hours but sometimes you can catch events like this english civil war demonstration which was fantastic. There is also a beautiful cathedral that is free to enter!! There are lots of great museums and it is not busy. Please visit id love to see more international tourists visiting England outside of London/ York/ Bath/ the Cotswolds/ Stonehenge.
