Portugal with Mom: Epic Eats, Landmarks & Light Luggage!

Get ready for an adventure because we’re diving into an epic recap of a vibrant Portugal trip with Mom! Traveling light with just one checked bag and backpacks, this duo embraced a fast-paced journey packed with delicious eats and iconic landmarks. From the charming streets of Lisbon to the breathtaking Douro Valley, every moment was infused with discovery and good vibes. This travel diary is all about embracing the energy of Portugal, soaking in the sunshine, and creating unforgettable memories, proving that a little bit of planning and a whole lot of enthusiasm can lead to the most amazing experiences.

The journey kicked off in Lisbon, where the aroma of Manteigaria's pasteis de nata was an instant mood booster. Wandering through Alfama’s charming streets and catching sunset from Graça Church felt like stepping into a postcard, radiating pure positivity. Sintra offered a fairytale escape with the vibrant Pena Palace and the serene Vila Sasseti trail. Even with a little planning, like pre-booking palace tickets and opting for Ubers over tourist buses, the adventure flowed seamlessly. The trip emphasized enjoying the sights and tastes, from the stunning countryside views to the surprising delights of fried octopus.

Across the days, the adventure continued to unfold. Belém’s Jerónimos Monastery and the National Coach Museum offered glimpses into history, while Cascais provided a refreshing coastal escape with stunning beach views and a memorable bike ride to Praia da Guincho. Porto greeted with its own unique charm, from the stunning São Bento station to the panoramic views from Ponte de Dom Luís I. The Douro Valley proved to be a highlight, with wine tastings at Quinta de la Rosa and an incredibly engaging tour at Quinta do Crasto, showcasing the region’s rich flavors and stunning landscapes. This trip was a masterclass in embracing the moment, discovering hidden gems, and enjoying the simple pleasures of travel, all while keeping the spirit light and adventurous.

Here’s my travel recap of my trip to Portugal with my mom from 3/27-4/5 using a single check in luggage and backpacks. We are pretty fast paced travelers who like to eat and see major landmarks but don’t necessarily care about going inside all of them. Hope this is helpful and feel free to ask any questions.

Uber and bolt are really cheap, trips to and from the airport were 15 euros max and most trips stayed around 5 euros. Typically uber is cheaper than bolt.
