Renting a car from Expedia and American Travel Rental Car scam(Mexico)
Our take
Renting a car through Expedia in Mexico turned into a frustrating experience for one traveler who discovered unexpected charges at the rental desk. Despite a listing claiming included liability insurance of around $750,000, the rental agents insisted on purchasing three additional insurances, tripling the total cost of the rental. When the traveler refused, they were denied the car and left with no choice but to Uber back.

| Rented a car through Expedia in Mexico. Listing said required liability insurance was included (~$750k coverage). Got to the rental desk and suddenly they said we had to buy 3 more insurances (collision, higher liability, medical) — total cost was 3x the rental price. When we refused, they wouldn’t give us the car. Had to Uber back. Then they also refused a refund. Is this normal or just a straight-up scam? Honestly shocked Expedia allows this. [link] [comments] |
