Revised itinerary - thanks for the inputs in my previous post. I have overhauled the itinerary, need your inputs again!
Our take
In the ever-evolving world of travel planning, it’s refreshing to see the community come together to help shape an itinerary that promises adventure and excitement. The recent post by a traveler seeking feedback on their revamped Central Europe and Scandinavia trip highlights the collaborative spirit of the travel community. Not only did they appreciate previous inputs, but they also took the time to reflect on their priorities, especially regarding the elusive Northern Lights. This thoughtful approach exemplifies the new wave of travelers who are not just checking off destinations on a map, but actively engaging with their journey, akin to the insights shared in articles like Best spots for a 15 days trip to Sardinia and Sicily and Need approval for my Portugal trip.
The itinerary itself is a blend of iconic cities and potential serendipity. Starting in Prague, moving through Berlin, and culminating in Tromsø and Copenhagen, it exemplifies a well-curated experience that balances historical exploration with natural wonders. The decision to join relatives adds a familial layer to the journey, reinforcing the idea that travel is not just about the destination, but also about the people we share those moments with. This sentiment resonates deeply in a time when connections matter more than ever, allowing travelers to create vibrant memories and stories that last a lifetime.
Moreover, the traveler’s shift in expectations regarding the Northern Lights speaks volumes about modern travel attitudes. Embracing the journey rather than fixating on a single outcome is a powerful mindset. It echoes sentiments from fellow travelers who share their experiences without the pressure of achieving perfection, as seen in discussions about group travels in Any travelling groups for Australia?. This approach encourages a more relaxed vibe, allowing travelers to appreciate each moment, whether or not it includes witnessing the magical auroras. It’s a testament to the evolving perspective on travel, where enjoyment and spontaneity take precedence over rigid itineraries and lofty expectations.
As travelers gear up for their adventures, it’s essential to recognize that itineraries like this serve as a reminder of the beautiful unpredictability of travel. Each leg of the journey offers unique experiences and insights, from Prague’s rich history to Berlin’s vibrant culture and Tromsø’s breathtaking landscapes. The excitement of combining these experiences with family adds an extra layer of joy, fostering a sense of community that enriches the travel experience.
Looking ahead, one must wonder how this collaborative, community-driven approach to travel planning will continue to shape the future of exploration. Will more travelers lean into shared experiences, prioritizing connection over checklist destinations? As we navigate the ever-changing landscape of travel, it’s clear that the essence of adventure lies not just in where we go, but in how we connect with those around us. The journey ahead is filled with potential, and we can’t wait to see how these evolving perspectives will redefine travel in the years to come.
Hi all, I posted an itinerary check last time (really appreciate all the inputs) and did some rethinking of our itinerary. Also, we found out that some relatives are also travelling around the same time so we are planning to join them in one city.
I am now focusing the trip within Central Europe and Scandinavia. I also heard you guys about Northern Lights during winter so I have lessened my expectations on this and will just enjoy the trip regardless whether we see it or not.
So now, here's the revised itinerary. Please let me know your thoughts!

- 2 weeks in Europe, need your inputs! My husband and I are planning to travel to Europe in December (probably 11 to 27 Dec) and these are the itineraries I have been drafting in my head. I just want to get some inputs as I may be over planning it. For context: we are from a tropical country and this is our first time to travel during winter. We have been to Europe before and our priorities this time are to see aurora borealis and to see Christmas markets. Itinerary 1 (my personal favourite because aside from our priorities, I personally want to visit WWII sites and museums and I want to see Sagrada): * 11 Dec - Fly to Reykjavik * 12-16 Dec - Iceland * 16 Dec - Fly to Berlin * 17-22 Dec - Berlin (1 day trip to Dresden) * 22 Dec - Fly to Barcelona * 23-27 Dec - Barcelona * 27 Dec - Fly back home Itinerary 2 (least ideal and this sacrifices Iceland but more cities): * 11 Dec - Fly to Barcelona * 12-14 Dec - Barcelona * 15 Dec - Fly to Lisbon * 15-19 - Lisbon * 19 Dec - Fly to Berlin * 19-24 Dec - Berlin (1 day trip to Dresden) * 24 Dec - Train to Prague * 24-27- Prague * 27 Dec - Fly back home Itinerary 3 (similar to #1 but replacing Berlin with Prague): * 11 Dec - Fly to Reykjavik * 12-16 Dec - Iceland * 16 Dec - Fly to Prague * 17-22 Dec - Prague (1 day trip to Dresden) * 22 Dec - Fly to Barcelona * 23-27 Dec - Barcelona * 27 Dec - Fly back home I am also open to suggestions! - Northern Lights in Tromso Norway, returning flight to avoid a full day or travelPlanning a trip to see the northern lights in Tromso, Norway in December. Flying into Tromso from another major European city like Amsterdam or Paris allows for a pretty short transit - one layover with a total transit time of about four hours. The flight leaving Tromso to get to another major European city has me challenged. Going to Prague, Paris, or London directly after Tromso can cause the airfare consolidator websites to suggest 8-10 hr trips that involve multiple stops. I would prefer not to spend an entire day transiting to get to my next destination after Tromso. Looking for ideas about itinerary to shorten transit time exiting Tromso. Perhaps visit another city not mentioned in my post? I know Copenhagen and Oslo are close to Tromso but would like to visit other cities besides those two. Would especially like to hear from others who have done a similar trip. Draft itinerary so far has: Home USA Paris Tromso Amsterdam Prague Home USA submitted by /u/ciscosista [link] [comments]
