Second guessing our itinerary in Portugal
Our take
We are going to Portugal May 17-23 and second guessing our itinerary, would love advice!
Current plan:
Fly into Lisbon ā train to Porto (3 nights) ā train back to Lisbon (3 nights) ā fly home from Lisbon.
But now Iām wondering if this is too much back-and-forth and if weāre losing time in transit. Would it be more relaxing / a better use of time to: Just fly into Porto and stay in that region the whole trip?
Or fly into Porto and out of Lisbon (one-way), so we donāt have to double back?
We want to maximize our time actually enjoying Portugal (food, wine, and wandering) vs sitting going back and forth. I am more of a relaxed traveler.
For those whoāve done itāwhat would you recommend? Is splitting time between Porto + Lisbon worth it, or better to slow it down and stick to one area? If we should stick to Porto, would love recommendations for the area. We are planning on visiting Douro Valley.
Any tips welcome š

- 8 Days in Portugal Itinerary Feedback (Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Nazare, Douro)Hi everyone! My family and I are travelling to Portugal next month, and Iād love some feedback on our itinerary. We donāt mind fast-paced travel, but I want to make sure weāre not rushing too much or missing anything major. Day 1: Arrive in Lisbon early morning Day 2: Explore Lisbon Day 3: Sintra day trip Day 4: Day trip to Nazare + Obidos (possibly Fatima too) ā debating between renting a car or doing a guided tour Day 5: Travel to Coimbra (not sure whether to stay overnight or continue to Porto the same evening) Day 6: Porto Day 7: Douro Valley day trip Day 8: More time in Porto, then evening train to Lisbon for next morningās flight Does this feel too rushed for 8 full days? Would you recommend renting a car for Nazare/Obidos, or is a guided tour easier? Is Coimbra worth an overnight stay, or would you spend the extra time in Porto instead? submitted by /u/SnooDonuts3819 [link] [comments]
- Itinerary Advice - Spain/PortugalHey everyone, Wondering what you all think of the following. I have 8 days to spend in mid/late June in Spain/Portugal and the 3 places/cities that we (my wife and I) are most interested in are San Sebastian, Porto, and Lisbon. I'm thinking it'll probably be rushed if we do all 3 in that amount of time, so I'm looking to narrow it down to 2 of the 3, but am having trouble. We're in our early 30s and enjoy a ton of different things including: food - restaurants/bars/coffee shops, culture/sightseeing, walking around cities, beaches, hiking/nature, night life and more. Any and all thoughts and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! submitted by /u/BonsaiCrazed13 [link] [comments]
- Advice on stops between Lisbon to AlgarveHi all, I have the front and back end of my Portugal itinerary down, pasted below. I am torn on what to do in middle, namely on day 5 and 6. As you can see below my initial plan was to take the scenic route and stop in Alentejo region for two days/1 night. I've considered 1) making day 5 a Cascais day trip and just driving straight to Algarve on day 6 using the highway. or 2) making day 4 a day trip to Cascais, then day 5-6 an overnight in Sintra, then straight to Algarve. Other stops i've considered are Evora, though a little out of the way. Would love insight from anyone whos done a similar trip. With the four days in the Algarve, I'm interested in any suggestions that would bring diversity to the itinerary. ie Porto Covo feeling the same as Lagos would be helpful to know. Day 1 - arrive LIS 4:40pm Day 2 - explore Lisbon Day 3- more Lisbon Day 4 - Sintra day trip Day 5 - was going to drive Lisbon to Alentejo, stop overnight in Porto Covo Day 6 - Porto Covo daytime to Algarve Day 7- Algarve (lagos or carvoeiro) Day 8 - Algarve (Seven Hanging Valleys Trail hike) Day 9 - Algarve (SUP Bengali caves) Day 10- Algarve (another town) Day 11- check out, fly to next destination (London) I would say my partner and I love to do something active each day followed by some chill beach time. We come from a beach town so its not entirely novel to use, but do love a quintessential eruo summer vibe. Good food is always appreciated, but we dont really drink. - Spain vs Spain + Portugal (15 days, mid-June) ā itinerary feedback?Hi, Iāve been reading past threads, but Iām still unsure how to structure this trip and would really appreciate some feedback. Trip details: ~15 days total (mid-June, somewhat flexible) Flying from the US (likely into Barcelona, out of Lisbon) Budget: mid-range (mix of hotels + occasional nicer stays) Interests: food, walkable cities, history, some architecture, not big on rushing or checking boxes What Iāve researched so far: I came up with two rough options: Option A (Spain only): Barcelona (4 days) Madrid (3 days) Seville (3ā4 days) Granada (2 days) Option B (Spain + Portugal): Barcelona (3ā4 days) Seville (3 days) Lisbon (3 days) Porto (2ā3 days) My questions: Does Option B feel too rushed given the travel time between Spain and Portugal? If sticking to Spain, would you prioritize Granada over somewhere like Valencia or more time in Madrid? Any adjustments youād make to improve pacing? submitted by /u/Existential_boba9352 [link] [comments]
