St. Gothard Pass, Furka Pass, Grimsel Pass, Switzerland, 19th of August 2025 - day 2 of the roadtrip from Slovenia to (South East) Switzerland to Italian Dolomites and back
Our take

This Swiss road trip day isn't just about scenic drives; it's a masterclass in crafting peak adventure moments! That Day 2 journey through St. Gothard, Furka, and Grimsel Passes delivers the ultimate "epic" feeling – proving that the most epic days aren't measured in miles, but in the sheer volume of breathtaking views packed into a short distance. It’s the perfect reminder that sometimes, the most unforgettable experiences come from slowing down and soaking in the glow, something echoed in those who’ve had 3 Days in Switzerland despite time constraints. The magic lies in the relentless cascade of peaks and valleys, making each pass feel like a new level unlocked in the adventure game.
What truly makes this day shine is the relentless, joyful chase of the view. Driving just 70-80 mountain kilometers packed with three iconic passes means stopping isn't an option – it's the whole point! This constant pausing to witness the landscape transform is the soul of the trip. It transforms the drive itself into the destination, fostering that inclusive "squad" vibe where everyone onboard shares in the collective gasp of awe. The near-perfect weather? That’s the universe giving you the green light to dream big and embrace your main character energy. It’s about chasing that unstoppable feeling, knowing the landscape rewards your curiosity with every twist and turn.
This experience taps into a deep-seated desire for connection and exploration that resonates with anyone craving more than the ordinary. It demonstrates that adventure isn’t always about conquering vast distances, but about immersing yourself in the *quality* of the journey. The beauty of the Grimsel Pass's dammed lake, the cinematic history of the Furka Pass (hello, Goldfinger!), and the sheer scale of St. Gothard – these aren't just stops; they're chapters in a shared story of discovery. It’s a blueprint for finding joy in the journey itself, where the destination is almost secondary to the vibrant energy of the road ahead.
As we look to the future of travel, this kind of curated, experience-focused road trip feels more relevant than ever. It asks: how can we build more moments where the journey itself is the epic adventure, encouraging us to pause, connect, and glow? It’s a challenge to embrace the playful, optimistic spirit of exploration, proving that the most unforgettable days are often those where the path itself becomes the unforgettable story. What epic drive will *you* chase next?
| A perfect day of the roadtrip from Slovenia to (South East) Switzerland to Italian Dolomites and back. Day 2 (of 8) of the road trip. Start in Locarno, on Lake Maggiore, then the first pass St. Gothard, (2000 m). Pictures 1-5. Next is the Furka Pass (2400 m), Pictures 6-14. Famous for the Bond film Goldfinger (1964). Then the Grimsel Pass (2100 m) with a beautiful dammed lake. Pictures 15-19. The day ended in Interlaken on Brienzersee/Thunersee. One of the most beautiful days of the road trip, the passes follow one after the other. There are not many kilometers to drive, about 250, of which 70-80 are in the mountains, but you stop constantly for the views. Of course, you are at the mercy of the weather and on that day it was almost perfect. [link] [comments] |
