Summer trip. Some doubts
Our take
Good evening, everyone.
This summer I’m planning a trip to Morocco lasting about two weeks. I’d like to spend around 3–4 days in Marrakech, 2–3 days in the desert (Merzouga?), 3 days in Essaouira and 4 days in Fez.
Is this feasible? Would you recommend spending less time in some places and more in others (for example, I’ve heard there isn’t much to see in Essaouira, although you can do a lot of ‘wandering around the streets’, which is something I also enjoy. However, I’m mainly interested in museums, mosques, historic districts, etc.)
I also have a few questions; mainly: how would you recommend getting around your country? Should we use public transport or hire a car? And what would you recommend for accommodation in the desert? Is there an agency or similar that organises this?
We’ll be going during the first two weeks of June. Thank you very much for reading.

- Traveling to Marrakesh for 4 nights (3 full days). Stay in the city or do an Ourika Valley day trip?My husband and I will be in Marrakesh Thursday night at the end of about 10 days in France and Spain. It's a last minute trip. We're staying at a riad in the medina. We usually like a mix of good food, wandering, and generally memorable experiences, not just trying to check off every major tourist spot. I’ve been looking at day trips to the Ourika Valley since it seems like a good way to get some nature and see more than just the city. But from the reviews I’ve seen, maybe it’s a bit too touristy? For anyone who’s been recently, did it feel worth it or more like a tourist trap? If you’d skip it, would you just stay in Marrakesh and go deeper there, or do something else nearby instead? Also thinking about hiring a private guide for the medina to make things easier and get more context without feeling hassled at the end of our trip. Worth it or not really necessary? Curious what people would prioritize with just three full days. We get in around 8 pm. We're elder millennials without kids, if that helps, and budget for extras like private guides isn’t a concern unless it’s hundreds of dollars. - Solo itinerary in southeastern MoroccoHello, I’ll be traveling to Morocco for a week in June, landing directly in Ouarzazate, where I’ll pick up a Dacia Logan. My itinerary, as shown in the picture, is to connect the following points of interest: • Ouarzazate → Skoura • Skoura → Kelaat M’Gouna • Kelaat M’Gouna → Dades • Dades → Tinghir • Tinghir → Erfoud / Rissani • Rissani → Merzouga Then return to Ouarzazate by making a loop through Tazarine, and then either Nkob or Zagora. I have a few questions: • Looking at Google Earth, most of the roads seem paved and in good condition — can you confirm that? Is the route easy enough with a Dacia Logan? My only concern is the N17 section between Tazarine and Zagora, which looks a bit like a dirt track. • The route seems fairly classic and touristy, so I assume I’ll meet quite a few tourists and locals along the way, which reassures me a bit about traveling alone. I also don’t plan to drive at night. In your opinion, is there any security concern doing all this solo? • I haven’t decided yet where I’ll stay. Probably two nights in Merzouga, and for the rest I’d like to stop more spontaneously wherever I feel like, without planning everything in advance. If you have recommendations for ideal stopover towns, I’m interested. • Finally, I know June is very hot, but nothing unbearable, right? I’ll have air conditioning in the car. - Portugal, Spain and Morrocco Travel Planning - Input please!Hi all! This summer I will be a foreign exchange student in Portugal and have decided to give myself two weeks of solo travel before the program begins. I am just looking for some input and opinions from other more experienced travellers on my itenary and plans. Note: I will be backpacking. All my flights have already been purchased (Lisbon -> Marrakech, Marrakech -> Seville, Spain). I am also not too concerned with spending time in Portugal as I will be there for a few months+ after this initial 14 days; lots of time to explore. Day 0: Arrive in Lisbon, Portugal at night. Check into hostel. Day 1: Lisbon (maybe day visit to Sintra) Day 2: Lisbon; Fly to Marrakech, Morrocco at night Day 3: Marrakech - Desert Camp [tentative] Day 4: Desert Camp [tentative] Day 5: Desert Camp - Return to Marrakech [tentative] Day 6: Marrakech Day 7: Marrakech Day 8: Marrakech Day 9: Marrakech - Fly to Seville, Spain at night Day 10: Seville Day 11: Seville (day trip to Cordoba, Grenada, or Malagda if im up for it) Day 12: Seville (day trip to Cordoba, Grenada, or Malagda if im up for it) Day 13: Seville - Overnight bus back to Lisbon Day 14: Arrive in Lisbon by Morning As you can tell, I had initially planned to spend a significant portion of my time in Morrocco as I am not likely to travel to N. Africa any time soon due to costs and time; this was a great oppurtunity. I was also very keen on doing camping in the desert and camel riding. With further research though, the desert camps seem to consist of 60% driving in and out of the desert and overspending on food at pre-picked restaurants. I now wonder if my time would be better spent visiting other cities in Morrocco like Fez (attracted by the historic charm). I am willing to adjust when I leave Morrocco as that was the cheapest flight between the two flights. Please let me know your thoughts! and if you thing the desert camp is worth the dedicated time! submitted by /u/Bursts-of-Joy [link] [comments]
- Morrocco in May - tips for the coast and Agadir areaHi! On a bit of a whim, just booked flights to Agadir to travel alone for about 10 days, the idea being to mostly stay in villages and small towns, whether on the coast or inland, enjoy beautiful landscapes, have small walks, nice food, a pretty chill daily ''routine'' schedule in a relaxed environment. Ideally just enough options to eat out, buy groceries and walk around but a pretty hassle-free place, not destroyed by tourism either. I don't surf, but would like to swim. In the meantime I realized i was pretty clueless about this area - I've been to the North of Morocco around Tetuan, Algiers etc before but never further down south. I take it that Agadir isn't the one for me. How is Taghazout, and the rest of the coast, or should I go towards Essaouira? Tafraoute looks amazing so that's one option for sure. Thanks in advance :) submitted by /u/Playful-Divide1198 [link] [comments]
