Travelling SE Asia solo as a woman - advice on packing and route?
Our take
I am travelling SE Asia for 6 weeks, leaving in two weeks. I will however likely extend this trip and will probably be 2-3 months total.
It would be great to get some advice on my packing list and route (both below). I have no idea what I'm doing but have just done some research around where I am likely to find DNB (absolute dnb nerd, happy to spend my life chasing it around the world hahaha) and where will be good for getting in some partying but also chilling, not too fussed to do anything crazy in terms of hikes/ activities.
All I've booked is my flight to Bangkok and return from Bali back to the UK, and the first two nights hostels in Bangkok.
Re. packing list - I don't mind slightly overpacking clothes but I also do wanna do some shopping out there. I have a 120L Backpack.
2x weeks Bali, 2x weeks Veitnam, 2x weeks Thailand, planning 2-4 days in each place. I am aware my plans will probably change if I meet people and want to go with them/ want to stay in places longer. Also open to suggestions of where else I should go if I extend!
Route:
Thailand- Bangkok -> Patong Beach -> Koh Samui -> Koh Pangan -> Koh Tao -> Back to Bangkok night before flight (I know it's a little rogue to go from Bangkok to Phuket and then the rest of my Thailand route but I have some friends there who are leaving Thailand a few days after I get there that I wanna catch for a few days)
Veitnam- Hanoi ->Ha Long Bay (day trip) -> Da Nang -> Hoi An ->Ho Chi Minh
Bali- Canggu -> Uluwatu -> Nusa Pendia -> Ubud - Gilli T

- Is this a realistic travel plan?Hi all, I’m planning on leaving my job early next year and taking 9-12 months off to go travelling through south east Asia, leaving around Feb/March time) I’m just in the process of making some initial planning, obviously it’s quite far away and this is by no means a finished itinerary. I’ve just written a draft based on places I’ve been recommended by friends and things I’ve seen online. I’m fully expecting everything to change, but is what I’ve got down already below somewhat realistic in terms of logistics, timings, cost, etc? I really have no idea what I’m doing so any advice is very much welcome haha. - First time in Vietnam: stay in North Vietnam solo or fly to Bangkok (again) for the last 5–6 days?Hey everyone, I’ll be traveling to Vietnam for the first time from 30 May to 26 June. I’m starting in Ho Chi Minh City and ending in Hanoi because of flight availability. I’ll be traveling with friends from 30 May to 20 June, and after that I’m planning to spend 5–6 days solo for the first time in my life. I’ve never solo traveled before, so I’m trying to decide what to do with that final part of the trip. Right now, I’m considering two options: 1. Stay in northern Vietnam for another 5–6 days I’ll already have spent around 6 days in the Hanoi area with my friends, so I’m not sure if there will still be enough for me to do alone. 2. Fly to Bangkok on 20 June and stay there until my flight home on 26 June I’ve been to Thailand several times and really love it there, especially the food, massages, and general atmosphere. The downside is that it would obviously make the trip more expensive because of the extra flight and slightly higher hotel/living costs. I’ve also thought about Chiang Mai or Krabi again, but with only a few days and needing to fly home from Bangkok anyway, I don’t think that would be worth the extra travel. For context, I’ve already been to Phuket, some Thai islands, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Krabi. My main question is: Is there enough to do in northern Vietnam for that long, or would it make more sense to spend the last 5 days in Bangkok since I already know I love it there? For my solo travel time, I’m mostly looking for: • nice scenery • street food and night markets • massages/spas • good food • relaxing activities • time alone with my thoughts • maybe 1–2 small tours • possibly playing pool or having a few beers with strangers • maybe getting a tattoo, like I did in Bangkok last year since they are way cheaper than in Europe I’m not really a big party or tourist-attraction type of person. For example, even though I really liked Bangkok, I wouldn’t be interested in places like Khao San Road. I guess I’m wondering whether it’s worth spending the extra money to fly to Bangkok for a few days just to get that Thailand feeling at the end of the trip, especially since I love Thai food and mango sticky rice so much. On the other hand, I don’t want to leave Vietnam too early if northern Vietnam would still be interesting and enjoyable solo. I'm looking for advice for a couple (F34, F41) My plan is to travel as follows: 12th of December early morning-15th of Dec - Hanoi, 15th of Dec late evening - 20th of Dec - Chiang Mai (tickets already booked) No tickets for rest: 20th of December - 25th of Dec - Koh Samui (travel though Surat Thani and take ferry) 25th of December - 29th of Dec - Bangkok (again ferry to Surat Thani and flight to Bangkok) 29th of December - 1st of January - Siem Reap (night bus to the next stop) 1st of January - 4th of Jan - Phnom Penh, 4th of January - ??? Ho Chi Minh City. I need to travel back home on the 11th of January. I really wanted to see Hoi An, is it possible? I know it may be rainy, so not really sure if it's worth it. Should I stay somewhere longer and finish in Ho Chi Minh City? I would have to travel back home from Ho Chi Minh City. Any other suggestions are very welcome. We are more onto quiet holidays, don't really like partying or crowded cities. Would love to stay somewhere for a couple of relaxing days hence Koh Samui.
