Turning 40 in early August. Help me pick somewhere special

Our take

Hey everyone! I’m gearing up for a big 40th birthday in early August and want to celebrate in style rather than just booking a random getaway. I’m flying from the UK and have Norway, particularly the breathtaking Oslo-Bergen train and fjords, at the top of my list. However, August prices are a bit daunting! I’m also considering Slovenia’s Lake Bled, Helsinki and Tallinn, or the Scottish Highlands and Skye.

Hey all,

Big birthday coming up and I want to actually do something with it rather than just book a random holiday.

Flying from the UK, first week of August.

Norway is top of my list right now, the Oslo-Bergen train and fjords specifically. Looks incredible but August prices are eye-watering, so trying to keep an open mind.

Other things I’ve been considering:

∙ Slovenia - Lake Bled

∙ Helsinki + Tallinn

∙ Scottish Highlands and Skye

A few questions:

Any ideas for making the actual birthday feel special?

Any other recommendations for a milestone birthday? I’m not fixed on any of these and genuinely open to being pointed somewhere I haven’t thought of.

Only real criteria: scenic or a special experience, not roasting, won’t completely destroy my bank account
