Visa to Russia from Kazakhstan as an outlander

Our take

Hey there, fellow adventurer! If you’re a French traveler navigating the visa maze from Kazakhstan to Russia, you're not alone! Securing a Russian visa in Kazakhstan can be tricky for outlanders, as local regulations often favor residents. While Kazakhs enjoy visa-free travel to Russia, non-residents may face challenges. However, many travelers have successfully obtained their Russian visas in Kazakhstan, so don't lose hope! Sharing experiences and tips from those who’ve been in your shoes can make all the difference. Let’s keep the adventure alive!

Greetings!

This is a specific question but a really important one because I might get stuck in Central Asia.

I am a French, and it is impossible for an outlander to get a visa in Kazakhstan or Kirghizistan to go to China. They simply don't deliver it to non residents. However, getting a chinese visa in Mongolia doesn't seem like a problem, according to various people.

So, my plan was to transit trough Russia to join Mongolia (I can't take flights). My question is the following : is it doable for an outlander to get a Russian visa in Kazakhstan ? Or also difficult ? I know Kazakhs don't have to issue visas to go to Russia so I don't even know.

If someone has any experience on this, I'll be happy to hear about it.

Thank you in advance.
