When Life Throws Cat Chaos: Reclaiming Your Day

When life throws a curveball, especially one involving a furry friend's unexpected ailment, it’s easy to feel like your entire day has gone off the rails. You envisioned a certain kind of epic adventure, full of sunshine and bold plans, but suddenly you’re deep in a Google rabbit hole, trying to decipher feline coughs and wondering if it’s a hairball or something more serious. It’s in these moments that the energy shifts, and the quest for productivity takes a backseat to pure, unadulterated concern. But even amidst the unexpected detours, there’s an opportunity to reclaim your day, to infuse it with a different kind of adventure – the adventure of resilience and self-care.

It’s easy to get caught up in the panic, to let the worry overshadow everything else. But the truth is, even when things don’t go according to plan, the spirit of adventure can still guide us. Think of it as a spontaneous detour on an epic road trip. The destination might be the same, but the journey is unexpectedly different, and often, those unplanned moments lead to the most memorable experiences. Embracing this mindset means acknowledging the chaos, soothing yourself and your loved ones (even the four-legged ones!), and then, with a renewed sense of calm, finding ways to steer your day back towards positivity. It’s about tapping into that inner main character energy, the one that says, “Okay, this happened. Now, how do we make the best of it?”

This is where the power of a positive outlook and a little bit of creative problem-solving comes in. Instead of dwelling on what was lost, focus on what can be gained. Maybe your meticulously planned schedule is out the window, but perhaps you can use this unexpected downtime to reconnect with your inner artist, to explore a new hobby, or simply to enjoy a quiet moment of reflection. The goal isn’t to erase the unexpected challenges but to navigate them with grace and an unshakeable belief in your own ability to adapt. It’s about finding the glow in the unexpected, the sunshine even when the clouds roll in, and remembering that every day, no matter how chaotic, is an opportunity to be bold and unstoppable.

From Yes and Yes

I wish my day got off course for a cool, sexy reason but the truth is this: My 19-year-old cat started coughing in a “doesn’t sound like a hairball OH GOD IS THIS THE END” way and I had to panic / soothe him / soothe myself / fall down a Google hole about cat laryngitis. (Which is totally a thing!)

(how the entire experience felt) It turned out to be a random, one-off coughing fit probably because he insists on laying under our bed, amongst all the dust bunnies.
