Would you change anything about this Cancun/Tulum itinerary?
Our take
Hey all, planning a trip with my cousins (5 of us, ages 21–27) from May 8–16, and wanted to sanity-check our plan before we book everything.
Biggest question: Is it a bad idea to drive from Cancun to Valladolid at night (around 7ish PM) as first-time visitors?
Flights are scattered; we all land in Cancun throughout the afternoon/evening on the 8th, and leave the morning of the 16th.
This is what we’re thinking daywise:
- land in Cancun, pick up a rental car, drive to Valladolid (late Airbnb check-in)
- chill/explore Valladolid
- Chichén Itzá + cenotes, then drive to Tulum in the evening/next morning
- Stay in Tulum 3ish days (mostly beach clubs, cafes, going out, etc.)
- Drive to Cancun, Airbnb check-in, Coco Bongo at night
- Isla Mujeres day trip, probably past noon
- fly out
other questions:
- Would it be better to stay in Cancun the first night and leave in the morning?
- Does this route make sense, or would you rearrange it?
- Too packed or pretty reasonable for almost 8 days?
We’re renting a car, budget is kinda mid (not backpacking but not luxury either), and mostly just want a mix of relaxing and going out. Open to any suggestions/changes. If something in here doesn’t make sense, feel free to call it out lol

- México, Belize, Guatemala Itinerary RecommendationsHi everyone, I’m currently planning a trip to central america in november 2026 and would love to get some feedback on my current itinerary. For reference: I am m/25 and would like to mainly sleep in hostels. I have some experience from backpacking SEA and would love to experience similar vibes here and there. 1. Does this route make sense logistically? Are the travel times between cities realistic? Is it too stressful? I enjoy seeing a lot, but I don’t want to spend my entire vacation just sitting in trains/cars or rushing from one landmark to the next. What should I adjust? Are there any places where I’m staying too long, or not long enough? Am I missing any highlights? What about safety concern along the route? I’m open to any suggestions, whether it’s regarding the pace, specific locations, or local travel tips. Thanks in advance for your help! submitted by /u/nloeken [link] [comments]
- Help me - Is this too much to my Mexico trip? (itinerary)I will arrive at 2/6. I have 17 days. was thinking in spend 3 days in CDMX, then going to Oaxaca and Puerto Escondido for 6 days. After, take a flight to Cancun and spend 1 week in Tulum/Playa del Carmen/Cancun, taking one day to visit Chitzen Itza by tour leaving Cancun. Is this ok? You think that is too many places and cities only for 17 days? What would you delete? submitted by /u/Historical_Prune_762 [link] [comments]
