Shark flex style help

I had been wanting to make more effort and style my hair more so I looked around and bought the shark flex style thinking it would make it easy since it wraps your hair for you. However, I have tried several different techniques and it never holds longer than an hour. I started with what the product recommended with hair 80% dry and heat protectant spray (wow brand) hold on hair for 8 seconds and cool shot for 10. Then I tried drying it first and spraying each piece with hairspray before and after curling. Holding the wand on my hair for longer, taking super small sections, and I don’t brush it out to not disturb the curls. My hair is pretty long but it usually holds curls for days with a regular curling iron and my hair is naturally wavy/curly. I know the wand gets super hot because sometimes I have to start the cool shot so I don’t burn myself so I’m not sure what the secret is to have the curls stay. The first photo is right after using the tool and the second is the side I did first and how it looks in the amount of time it took me to do the other side (didn’t brush out). Ive been trying to give it the benefit of the doubt that maybe it’s user error but I’m getting frustrated and starting to think I wasted my time and money on this. Any suggestions?
