2 weeks in August - help me choose
Our take
Hello! :) My partner and I are planning a 2-week holiday (starting July 26) and I've been going back and forth for weeks now regarding this.
We're a couple looking for a mix of beach & relaxation, some exploration and culture, good food, and decent nightlife. We loved Madeira, also Mallorca was very nice. Here are the three options we're considering:
Canary Islands (Gran Canaria 5 nights + Tenerife 5 nights)
Greek Islands (Paros + another island, maybe Milos?)
Greek Islands (Paros) + South of France (Nice as a base)
Budget is also important, and would categorize it as moderate.
We are open to other suggestions too, of course. We thought about Croatia, like a road trip or a lot of other combinations, but we are still undecided. We would really appreciate some help. Thank you!

- Need help planning next tripMy husband and I would like to travel with our 16-month-old this upcoming September. We went to Portugal last September all together and had an incredible time. But now we can’t seem to make a decision. We keep going back and forth but we have narrowed it down to the following destinations (in no particular order): - Greece (Crete or Naxos/Paros) - Croatia (Dalmatian Coast) - Italy (Sicily and/or Sardinia) - Costa Rica - Andalusia - Balearic Islands I would like gorgeous beaches and charming towns, while my husband would like a place rich with history and activities/excursions to do. We would also like a place that is family friendly, and food is important as well. We have between 10-14 days so we’re thinking 2-3 bases would be ideal. We have no issues with renting a car, but we would like to keep travel time to a minimum (i.e. proximity to a major airport, easy ferry access, limited flights). We’re from a major Canadian hub so bonus points for direct flights. submitted by /u/Commercial-Cattle-89 [link] [comments]
- Thoughts on our honeymoon itinerary?Hello! We'll be taking a ~3-week honeymoon this September (maybe into early October). A bit about us: We enjoy walkable cities/towns with nice parks/green spaces, beaches, good food, coffee, wine, and cocktails! We prefer going to a nice wine bar or chill bar/lounge over a club. Right now we're for sure want to go to France and Spain, but are deciding between Italy and Portugal. Here's our rough itinerary: Fly into Paris for 4-5 nights (have been here before) Take the train to Cassis for 3 nights If we choose Italy: Fly to Milan for 3-4 nights Take the train to Bologna for 3-4 nights Fly to Barcelona for 3-4 nights (have been before) Take the train to Valencia (3-4 nights) Fly home (either from Valencia or travel back to Barcelona) If we choose Portugal: Fly from Cassis/Nice to Barcelona Take the train to Valencia Fly to Libson (4-5 nights, have been before) and likely take a day trip to Cascais. Fly home (Southern California) Also open to other city recommendations! Thanks! submitted by /u/tayyylooor [link] [comments]
- Tenerife, Madeira, or the Azores without a car (or somewhere else)? (10–14 days in summer) Hi I’m planning a roughly 14 day vacation between July and September (haven't decided yet) and am torn between the Azores, Madeira, and the Canary Islands (specifically Tenerife). Since I don’t want to rent a car (I have a drivers license, but Ive barely driven in over a decade and had very little practice even before then) Im unsure which destination is best suited for me. I love nature and want to do a lot of hiking, but at the end of the day, good local food is also very important to me. Id also like to spend some time by or in the ocean (though a pure sandy beach isnt particularly important to me). From what I’ve seen and read, tenerife offers very diverse landscapes and is generally warmer, both of which I find extremely tempting. Ive always wanted to see volcanic landscapes. But island hopping is not so easy? What appeals to me about the Azores is the abundance of pure, green nature and the fact that it seems a bit less touristy. However, it seems like it might be very difficult to get around without a car? Island hopping seems easier? Madeira seems to fall somewhere in the middle. Anyone here got some experience with any of these islands? Maybe can give a rough comparison? submitted by /u/Honest-Violinist-448 [link] [comments]
- Abroad with SO recommendationsHello! This is an extremely exciting post for me. My (22M) GF (22F) has just recently told me she wants to get out of her comfort zone a bit and travel with me. I am so unbelievably excited, and my thoughts and ideas have been racing. With that said, I need some recommendations on where to go. For context, we have between 6-8 days, and would be flying out of Boston, Massachusetts in August. I have been across much of Europe, with the exception of some heavy hitters like Portugal, much of southern Spain, Italy, Norway, and Greece. I have done a lot of that solo though, and now that she wants to come with me I am not sure of what would be a more romantic, couples destination. I was thinking the Croatian coast (Split down to Dubrovnik and maybe into Montenegro), Porto and Lisbon, Costa Brava in Spain. She wants to be by the ocean, and that’s pretty much it. Let me know what you think! submitted by /u/Master-Indication-71 [link] [comments]
