3 months solo trip in Asia this autumn
Our take
Get ready for an epic adventure! This autumn, I’m embarking on a thrilling three-month solo journey across Southeast Asia, starting from the end of September. I’ll kick things off with five weeks exploring Japan, from the stunning landscapes of Hokkaido to the vibrant streets of Tokyo and the beautiful beaches of Okinawa. Then, I’ll dive into three weeks in Taiwan and spend five exciting days in Hong Kong. As December approaches, I’m torn between Indonesia and the Philippines for a peaceful beach finale.
Hello, I'm planning a 3 months trip from end of september to end December in South East asia.
So far I'm planning :
5 weeks in Japan, starting in hokkaido, then going South by train to Tokyo, Golden route and then down to Okinawa
3 weeks in Taiwan, seems amazing
5 days in Hong Kong
And then I'm not sure... Indonesia or the Philippines? It will be December than, I'm not sure about the weather, I' d like to end the trip somewhere quiet on the beach ...
What would you recommend ?

- Backpacking Southeast Asia July & August (6weeks)Hey :) I have six weeks to spend in July & August. I would like to surf, chill at the beach, do self care (spa), maybe do my diving license, and some hiking/nature stuff. But I’d also like to have a social environment where I can go to hostels to meet people (because I am travelling solo). I have already been in east-Malaysia, Lombok, Bali, Java, Flores and I wanna explore something new. Because it’s my only time off throughout the year good weather is quite important to me, which made me think Indonesia is the only appropriate place for me to go to but I’ve exhausted my indonesia options I feel like. I am so confused. Central vietnam would have been a good place but it’s less of a beach-vibe I think. What would be a good place to go to? What do yall advise me? - Okinawa? Thailand?Hi. I have two weeks in October, me and my partner are trying to decide between the two. Thailand is my dream destination but we went to Tokyo last year for only 5 days (airline benefits 😅) but felt disappointed with our short-lived experience and want to go back to Japan. But we are also really interested in exploring Bangkok/Koh Samui/Koh Tao. We were looking into going back to Japan and also flying to Okinawa after spending a week at one of the major areas on the mainland (for shopping, food, etc.) probably not Tokyo as we did that already. We really can’t pick between the two, and two weeks isn’t enough for both🤣. Background info, we love swimming/snorkelling/beach and are Canadian. Also been to Hawaii and Nice, France and we absolutely loved the ocean. Thoughts? submitted by /u/Fresh-Fan-1835 [link] [comments]
- Where in Asia in September?Hi all, I'm considering a destination for a short 7-10 day trip (excluding travel time) at the end of September as I have two weeks leave them (Sep 20 - Oct 2). As this is not a lot of time, it's most practical I visit Asia to minimise my transit time and maximise my holiday. I'm also looking for something not too expensive as I have another much bigger trip in January that is my main focus. As I live in Australia, Asia is the most practical (just been to NZ recently, so excluding that as an option for now). Here are my requirements: - Not Japan, going there in January. - No where too hot. I already live in a very hot part of Australia. I used to have a lot more heat tolerance, but I'm over it. I'm worried SEA will still be a bit too hot and wet this time of year. - Had been considering China or Vietnam, but worried Vietnam may still be a bit too hot. - I am thinking of doing this as my first ever tour. I've always travelled by my own arrangements, but I don't see myself getting sufficient time to plan this trip. If I do a tour, I probably wouldn't do China or Vietnam as I'd much rather do them on my own terms (or Thailand, or Malaysia, or Singapore, or Korea, for that matter. Just too easy to do on my own). I'm really interested in Mongolia, but it doesn't seem like there are any group tours that fit my dates. Uzbekistan is another place of high interest, but also not sure if it's worth it for the time frame and travel time is starting to push it a bit. Considering India or Phillipines, though worried about the weather in the Phillipines. Any suggestions for destinations welcome. Likewise, good tour agencies. I'm considering Intrepid or G Adventures, but apprehensive. Don't want a big group. I'm 40, so I don't want to be with only people in their 20s, and likewise don't want to be with only people in their 60s. Happy for a mixed bag of ages though. Bonus points for women only tours. submitted by /u/Capable-Toe-9841 [link] [comments]
- Best July holiday destination recommendations outside Europe?Hi all Looking for recommendations for a 3 week holiday in July time. We absolutely love South East Asia. Already been to Japan x2, Bali x2 (so probably will avoid travelling there again too soon) and Thailand. We loved Mexico. We are holding off on South America for now (maybe a trip in the future) Toying with the idea of travelling to Vietnam, however I've read its extremely hot, humid and in the middle of rainy season in some areas which isn't ideal. But if anyone feels that its still a reasonable destination to travel to during this time - please let me know! Open to any other suggestions really. For context, me and my partner are fairly active, love walking, exploring as well as spas and good food. Not massively into partying so happy to give that a miss. We don't mind the idea of travelling around or island hopping. Looking forward to recommendations submitted by /u/Southern-Assist5666 [link] [comments]
