Do I need to use the ESS machine each time I enter the Shengen?
Our take
If you've recently registered with the ESS machine for your entry into the Schengen Area, you might be wondering about the process for your future trips. While the initial registration is indeed done at the ESS machine, many travelers believe they can proceed directly to the e-gate for quicker entry and verification. However, airport staff often direct travelers to the ESS registration line, which can be confusing.
I used one of the ESS registration machines for the first time last week. My understanding is that the machine is only for initial registration, and that I can now directly go to the egate for entry and verification.
However, it seems like the staffs at the airport just redirect everyone to the ESS registration line.
Am I correct that for my upcoming trips to Europe I can skip the line and head directly to the egate?
