Family Vacation Ideas (help!) - East Coast Summer 2027
Our take
Hello, fellow adventure seekers! Planning a summer family vacation for 2027 is an exciting challenge, especially with a large group of 18! With memorable past trips to Ocean Isle, Orlando, and the Badlands, it's time to think outside the box. Ideally, you’re looking for a destination within an 8 to 9-hour drive from Greensboro, NC, that accommodates various family needs. Whether you lean toward a beach option or explore new adventures, let’s brainstorm the perfect getaway that fits everyone’s vibe and budget!
Hello! My extended family vacations together every other year and it's almost time to present ideas for next year. We are a pretty large group and I feel like I am struggling with finding a location that fits everyone's needs. Previously we have been to Ocean Isle (NC), Orlando (FL), and the Badlands (SD). Would anyone have any suggestions? Here are the guidelines I am trying to follow:
- Within 8 or 9 hour driving distance from Greensboro, NC
- Most of the family lives in NC and we have done beaches a lot, always open to another beach year but am trying to think outside the box!
- Budget to mid level price range (Previously spent $1,200 per family to go in on AirBnBs)
- 18 people - Family 1 (2 adults), Family 2 (2 adults), Family 3 (2 adults but would ideally want two separate bedrooms), Family 4 (2 adults and 2 kids), Family 5 (2 adults and 2 kids), Family 6 (2 adults and 2 kids), Family 7 (2 adults) - So if we did an AirBnb we would ideally need 8 or 9 bedrooms!
- Most of the kids are elementary aged, one toddler (age 3) and one baby (1 yr)
- I am tempted to do a hotel or rentals in the same condo unit since the family is getting so large so that's an option as well!
Thank you in advance for suggestions I am really struggling!!

- Looking for a kid friendly vacation spot with water slides and oceanRecently started traveling more with our kids, we have traditionally camped around our area, our kids are very outdoorsy. We went to Myrtle Beach and stayed at Crown Reef Resort and Waterpark and we had a great time. Our girls were obsessed with the pools and water slides but the ocean was a little rough for them, they’re 4 and 6, and they’ve grown up on a lake so not as used to larger waves. Looking for something similar, or wondering if that’s where we should back to. Doesn’t matter if it’s all inclusive or not (actually there we had our own kitchen and made all our meals), but separate sleeping areas would be ideal. Not a deal breaker if not. We just would like a family friendly location with calmer ocean and water slides on site. No Disney as we have that planned in a couple of years. Would prefer to stay on the east coast/Caribbean but will fly. Looking to go end of June/early July! Thank you for any help! submitted by /u/moosbrug [link] [comments]
- Beach Trip IdeasHey, looking for some recommendations for some good beaches somewhat near NC/SC. I have a few friends Im going with so we'd like somewhere drivable but flying isn't off the table if it's a good recommendation. But somewhere that has walkable attractions so we dont have to drive 100% of the time/spend the entire time driving. (especially with the price of gas 💀) The only place we don't really want to go to is Myrtle. Some places that aren't off the table but places that we've been too: - Charleston, SC - Oak Island, NC - Holden, NC submitted by /u/Away_Championship375 [link] [comments]
- Family friendly beach/adventure destinationsLooking into a few different options for my 40th. Thinking we will celebrate in the winter when it’s a little more dreary and cold where we live. We love the beach and outdoor activities. We might travel with my 8 year old son. Haven’t decided yet. He loves water slides and we want to take him snorkeling, mellow hiking, etc. I’ve thought about Costa Rica, but think that might be a lot of travel for just 5-6 days with all 3 of us. Key Largo and Baha Mar in the Bahamas have crossed my mind as well as Bermuda, but Bermuda looks a little pricey. Specific resort recommendations would be helpful! We are pretty low key but would love a place that’s clean, relatively chill with easy access to great food. Thank you! submitted by /u/Upbeat_Conference522 [link] [comments]
