First solo trip to Portugal (June 20-29). Faro and Lisbon help?
Our take
Hey everyone! I’m heading back to Portugal this June for my first solo trip. I loved Porto and Caparica a few years ago, so I’m doing 3 days each in Faro, Porto, and Lisbon from the 20th to the 29th.
I’m not worried about the Porto leg—I’ve done São João before and I’m ready for the chaos—but I could use some help with the other two cities since I won't have a car.
Faro (June 20-23):
I really want to just chill on the beach but also see the Old Town and the street food stalls for the saints' festivals.
• Should I stay out on the beach strip (Praia de Faro) or in the city center near the Marina?
• I’m leaning toward the center so I can just hop on the ferries to the islands (Deserta/Farol) during the day and walk to dinner at night, but is the beach strip too isolated if I don't have a car?
Lisbon (June 26-29):
I’m looking for a neighborhood that’s social. I’m torn between Príncipe Real and Baixa. Which one is better for a solo traveler who wants to walk most places?
Would love any low-key food or bar spots for a solo traveler. Thanks!

- 4 Days in the Algarve: Where to Go?I have a trip booked for almost 3 weeks, starting end of May and ending in Faro, Portugal early/mid June. Travelling with my friend, 21F, and we are wondering where to go in the Algarve region of Portugal. We leave from Lisbon, and we're thinking of taking the train down to to the Algarve, spending 5 nights there (arriving in the evening the first night), and then leaving out of Faro to head home. We want to end our trip with some fun, so good night life and spending the days at the beaches there. I am wondering which areas are walkable to both of these options, and hopefully a bit less touristy. Should we stay in one spot for the 5 nights or do 2-3 nights in two different areas along the way from Lisbon to Faro? Looking for any low-cost recs to make the most of our time there! submitted by /u/Far-Honeydew-7467 [link] [comments]
- Help with Portugal and Azores. 2 weeks. ItineraryHello, I plan to go to Portugal and Azores for 2 weeks in early June. I will be landing in Lisbon. I will also depart from Lisbon when the 2 weeks ends. Now, my question is, how much time should I budget for seeing the Azores and Portugal? Would it make sense to go to Azores first or middle or end of my trip? Little background: I am solo travelling (first time), introvert, not interested in night life and I do not drink so not too interested in Douro Valley. I want to see a lot of Portugal, not just Lisbon. How would you recommend I structure my itinerary? Any places I shouldn't miss and/or can miss? I am very early into making my itinerary so I would appreciate any and all suggestions! Thanks! submitted by /u/eudusu [link] [comments]
- Visiting Portugal for the first time - any tips?Hi all! Me my partner and our 2 kids (9 and 12 years old) will be visiting Portugal from the 29th of April to the 6th of May. We have only booked flight tickets to fly in to Faro and fly out from Porto. The idea is to rent a car and cross the country, then fly out of Porto while crossing the country. We would like to spend at least one day surfing, thinking of the area around Ericeira, as we re all beginners, have surfed mainly in mediterranean and north sea. Also we prefer more low key, traditional towns and villages and nature rather than touristic areas. I think it would also be nice to see Lisbon. One idea was to do part of the N2 as I am reading it is a nice route to follow. But looking for some advice from you lovely people as well, what are places that you would say we shouldn't miss, what to avoid, areas you recommend we should stay over, things to try or anything else that comes to your mind? - Advice on stops between Lisbon to AlgarveHi all, I have the front and back end of my Portugal itinerary down, pasted below. I am torn on what to do in middle, namely on day 5 and 6. As you can see below my initial plan was to take the scenic route and stop in Alentejo region for two days/1 night. I've considered 1) making day 5 a Cascais day trip and just driving straight to Algarve on day 6 using the highway. or 2) making day 4 a day trip to Cascais, then day 5-6 an overnight in Sintra, then straight to Algarve. Other stops i've considered are Evora, though a little out of the way. Would love insight from anyone whos done a similar trip. With the four days in the Algarve, I'm interested in any suggestions that would bring diversity to the itinerary. ie Porto Covo feeling the same as Lagos would be helpful to know. Day 1 - arrive LIS 4:40pm Day 2 - explore Lisbon Day 3- more Lisbon Day 4 - Sintra day trip Day 5 - was going to drive Lisbon to Alentejo, stop overnight in Porto Covo Day 6 - Porto Covo daytime to Algarve Day 7- Algarve (lagos or carvoeiro) Day 8 - Algarve (Seven Hanging Valleys Trail hike) Day 9 - Algarve (SUP Bengali caves) Day 10- Algarve (another town) Day 11- check out, fly to next destination (London) I would say my partner and I love to do something active each day followed by some chill beach time. We come from a beach town so its not entirely novel to use, but do love a quintessential eruo summer vibe. Good food is always appreciated, but we dont really drink.
