First time in Edinburgh, should we go to and see Old man of Storr?

While Edinburgh has its own charm and nearby day trip options, the majestic landscapes of Skye will make for unforgettable memories.
Hello! My fiance and I are flying from LAX to EDI in the last week of May 2026. I am debating if I should use 2-3 days of our first time in Scotland driving up while sight seeing and spending one night in Portee and see the Old Man Storr and Quiraing. WE really wanted to feel the majestic views of Scotland but are hesitant because I saw posts that it's better to just stay in Edinburgh and do 1 day trip to somewhere close to see the west highland. WE both love nature. Hoping to get some of your insight! Thank you in advance :)
Edit: The reason for wanting to go to Isle of Sky is because as a foreigner, we usually see multiple videos of Old Man of Storr online. Much more than other places. But we are definitely open to see other option. We're not here to tick of IG Spots. We really just want to experience Scotland the best way possible with the limited time we have.

We are a group of 4 30 year olds and my 65 year old parents (relatively fit). We definitely want to spend time in the highlands and in Edinburgh, it’s the no car piece I’m struggling with. My mom is very anxious about us driving on the left side of the road and is very against getting a rental car. We are willing to pay for drivers for certain areas, but we’d like to avoid bus tours if possible. Our main focus is dramatic landscapes, castles, picturesque villages with high quality local shops and art, and cultural experiences. We are ok with some shorter hikes, but we are trying to go places with alternatives if the weather ends up being terrible We plan on flying into Edinburgh and staying there for 5 nights and taking a day trip to Stirling At least 3 nights in Skye (we plan on hiring a driver to take us to Skye and stop at locations on the way in Glencoe) and we will hire a day taxi to take us places in Skye This next piece I’m struggling with: - maybe 3 nights in Oban followed by 2 nights in Glasgow? Or maybe add a night to Oban or Skye and then just one night in the final city before flying out? - would one full day in Oban without a car seem like too much? - Where to go from Edinburgh?Flying in to Edinburgh, solo, mid May. Doing 3-4 days there and then I have about five more days before I have to be back to Edinburgh for my flight home. I had to plan all this last minute so Skye accommodations are completely gone and Rabbies is sold out (not sure about this option anyway). One of my friends suggested Aviemore but I feel it may be very similar to where I live (Colorado). I could fly into Inverness by adding a huge layover but then im stuck fighting for accommodation on Edinburgh to see at it the end with a marathon they are having. I'm on a modest budget and I'm an experience traveler dude in my 30s. I would prefer coast but I'm open to whatever. I want cozy Irish pubs, nature, and scenery outside Edinburgh. I'm good to drive a bit but driving five hours solo on the wrong side of the road sounds less than fun for skye. Maybe I can drive part. Any thoughts are appreciated and thank you. I’ve heard that whatever the google maps driving time is, I should probably double it in Scotland. I’ve tried to give myself plenty of transit time to see and explore on travel days. - Ireland and Scotland or Which?My partner and I are planning our anniversary trip and we spent 2 weeks in England during our first international trip and now we are wanting to do a combo 2-ish week trip for Scotland and Ireland. We’re big foodies, he loves history, and I love scenery. Is it possible to do both or should we pick one? We always said do both since we’ll be out there anyway and thought might as well and were going to do roadtrip-esque since that’s what we do in the states.
