First-time trip to Thailand - Koh Samui and Chiang Mai?
Our take
Are you ready to embark on an unforgettable journey to Thailand this summer? Splitting your time between the vibrant island of Koh Samui and the culturally rich city of Chiang Mai sounds like an epic plan for your six-day adventure! You’ll experience stunning beaches, breathtaking scenery, and immerse yourself in local traditions while enjoying a touch of luxury. This combination promises an exciting mix of exploration and relaxation, perfectly suited for your desire for adventure without the nightlife scene. Let the adventure begin!
I’m thinking of travelling to Thailand this summer for about 6 days and was considering splitting my time between Koh Samui and Chiang Mai.
I’d like a mix of adventure, scenery, culture and a bit of luxury, but I’m not really interested in nightlife or heavy drinking.
Would this combination work well for a short trip, or would you recommend other locations?

- 2 Weeks in Thailand in June - Where to go?I’m planning a 2-week trip to Thailand in early June and would love some advice! I’ve already been to the Gulf islands (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao), so I’d prefer to explore different parts of the country this time around. Ideally, I’m looking for: -A mix of culture + relaxation -Somewhere scenic/nature-focused -Beautiful beach -Options that aren’t too heavily impacted by rain (if possible in June) Where would you recommend for a 2-week itinerary? Is Koh Kood worth the trip in June, or should I consider somewhere else? I appreciate any suggestions on great spots—thanks in advance! submitted by /u/Delicious_Bowl_5082 [link] [comments]
- Vietnam, Thailand, CambodiaHi! I'm looking for advice for a couple (F34, F41) My plan is to travel as follows: 12th of December early morning-15th of Dec - Hanoi, 15th of Dec late evening - 20th of Dec - Chiang Mai (tickets already booked) No tickets for rest: 20th of December - 25th of Dec - Koh Samui (travel though Surat Thani and take ferry) 25th of December - 29th of Dec - Bangkok (again ferry to Surat Thani and flight to Bangkok) 29th of December - 1st of January - Siem Reap (night bus to the next stop) 1st of January - 4th of Jan - Phnom Penh, 4th of January - ??? Ho Chi Minh City. I need to travel back home on the 11th of January. I really wanted to see Hoi An, is it possible? I know it may be rainy, so not really sure if it's worth it. Should I stay somewhere longer and finish in Ho Chi Minh City? I would have to travel back home from Ho Chi Minh City. Any other suggestions are very welcome. We are more onto quiet holidays, don't really like partying or crowded cities. Would love to stay somewhere for a couple of relaxing days hence Koh Samui. We are both foodies, love nature, hiking and history. Mid budget. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/walk_sleep_walk_more [link] [comments]
- Haad Yao or Thong Nai Pan NoiHello! My boyfriend and I are planning our 2 week trip to Thailand in May 2026 and doing the following route: 3 nights Bangkok 2 nights Koh Tao 3 nights Koh Phangan 3 nights Koh Samui 2 nights Bangkok We cannot decide where to book for Koh Phangan and the two areas we are most "stuck" between is the Haad Yao / Salad area and Thong Nai Pan Noi, as these are the two areas which seem to come back recommended the most on Google and AI. From what we’ve researched so far Haad Yao / Salad seems better for having more going on nearby and easier access to the rest of the island, whereas Thong Nai Pan Noi looks like it has much nicer (almost 5★) accommodation, but seems quieter and a bit more remote. Has anyone stayed in either (or both) and can share their experience, please? Would you prioritise location/convenience, or the higher-end resort vibe? Of a day we are mostly looking to relax at the beach and explore some of the Island; then of a night have a nice dinner and drinks afterwards.
