Should we go in Ravenna, Italy in August?
Our take
In early to mid-August (from 4th to 10th of the month), my friend and I would like to visit Italy. We’re thinking of somewhere further north, as it’ll be hot and we’d like to be closer to the sea and enjoy the a little bit cooler air.
We’ve been thinking about visiting Ravenna or Marina di Ravenna, having read online that it’s beautiful there and that there are various sights to see. At the same time, we’d like to relax – these are our holiday days and one of us will have a birthday during the trip – so we’re also looking out for any events or bars worth visiting. All in all, we’re looking for a mix of fun and leisure.
Is it a good option considering our needs? We want to go somewhere that isn’t often visited, but it’s definitely worth it.

- Bologna in AugustHello I'm planning a trip to Bologna area 19-23 August. I'm aware that Ferragosto is 15 August, and generally Italians use August as their Summer holiday break. I intend to stay in Bologna City Centre 19-21 and then visit Villa Abbondanzi Resort in Faenza 21-23, where I'll relax poolside for the couple of days. I hope to have a lesuirely cycle to one or two wineries for a tasting and tour, and visit a restaurant and bars in Faenza. I understand it will be roasting hot. I love the heat and sunshine, so no issue there. The pool will help me cool off! My question is, at this particular time of the year, will: A) Bologna City Centre B) Faenza be super quiet with lots of bars, restaurants and shops closed? Particularly Faenza, and the local places there, and also typically wineries? I guess Bologna has more chance of things being open. Or being it's also tourist season, many places will still be open? - Lake Garda for 4 nightsHi all, I am planning a trip to North Italy (possibly 13-17th May, before it gets too hot for us) - thought about Venice but settled on 4 nights in Lake Garda with half a day or so in Verona before our flight back. I have been doing research, and really want to experience Riva and Sirmione, as well as possibly Limone? (suggestions are very welcome). I am unsure how to divide our hotels, for example should I spend 2 nights in Sirmione and 2 nights in Riva? Or should I spend all 4 in a town halfway between? We will probably only have a backpack each as luggage, so moving hotel isn't as big of an issue than if we had big suitcases. At first I even considered a different hotel every night going around the lake, but maybe that is too busy as we still want a relaxing holiday. Does anyone have any advice on what towns we should visit during our 4 nights, (5.5 days ish) and whether we should stay in the same hotel or if it is a good idea to move? Or should we stick to one side? Many thanks in advance! \#lakegarda #italy #verona submitted by /u/Own_Duty2374 [link] [comments]
- Romantic Italy tripHello- looking for tips on an Italy trip for me and my boyfriend. He really wants to do Italy but I have been a bunch of times and I’ve done most of the obvious places- Rome, Florence, cinque terre, Taormina, almalfi (and sorrento), Venice, Dolomites, Verona, como, lake garda and Tuscany. I’m truly at a loss for where to go- do I repeat somewhere amazing like Tuscany or branch out somewhere new? I’ve had my eye on Calabria, puglia, Sicily, capri (I did a day trip once but never stayed), Sardinia, lake orta and borolo region. Our main want is long lazy days maybe drinking some wine and cute cobblestone alleys to get lost in. We will be doing two places and we prefer one of them be lake or beach. I am looking for advice on what would be best for July- you guys have never steered me wrong, I trust you fully!! Thanks so much!! submitted by /u/External_Word3442 [link] [comments]
