Lake Garda for 4 nights
Our take
Hi all, I am planning a trip to North Italy (possibly 13-17th May, before it gets too hot for us) - thought about Venice but settled on 4 nights in Lake Garda with half a day or so in Verona before our flight back.
I have been doing research, and really want to experience Riva and Sirmione, as well as possibly Limone? (suggestions are very welcome).
I am unsure how to divide our hotels, for example should I spend 2 nights in Sirmione and 2 nights in Riva? Or should I spend all 4 in a town halfway between? We will probably only have a backpack each as luggage, so moving hotel isn't as big of an issue than if we had big suitcases. At first I even considered a different hotel every night going around the lake, but maybe that is too busy as we still want a relaxing holiday.
Does anyone have any advice on what towns we should visit during our 4 nights, (5.5 days ish) and whether we should stay in the same hotel or if it is a good idea to move? Or should we stick to one side?
Many thanks in advance!

- Where to visit from MilanSo, in a few weeks I'm going on a vacation. We're 3 people, it's gonna be a 7 day travel, and we booked an appartment in Milan for the whole trip so we wouldn't be carrying the bags all the time. The day we arrive we are going to explore Milan. The last day is to pack bags and go back to the airport. We are left with 5 days to visit other places. We were looking into visit Florence, Verona, Lake Como, Lake Garda, Lugano and maybe do the Bernina train. This are all options to do on this vacation and we are trying to choose what to do, in each day. For example, for me, Lake Garda, Florence and Lugano are priorities but I'm not the only on vacation. But we are flexible and have about the same tastes. For people from there and who have traveled there, how would you advice organizing this, where to go, what advices do you have? Should we book train tickets right now before going or it's fine booking them on the spot? What about the boats if we go the the lakes? Thank you in advance. submitted by /u/Ancient-Pen- [link] [comments]
- Lake Garda, Italy 🇮🇹I have spent the most wonderful week in Lake Garda and would like to share my itinerary plus some helpful tips here. We were situated at the north end of the lake in the beautiful town of Torbole (Pic 1). The north is closer to the mountains, so the scenery is more dramatic and the winds stronger - a firm favourite for those who enjoy water sports, hiking and cycling. On our first day we took the ferry to nearby Malcesine (Pics 2 and 3). This historical town is famous for its medieval castle and stunning views. It is also home to the Funivia Malcesine - a cable car which takes you 1600 metres up to the top of Monte Baldo. We went from sunny 25 degree weather in Malcesine to hiking in the snow in the space of 20 minutes! The views of the snow topped mountains and the lake below really are something else (Pics 4 and 5.) The next day we visited the quaint area of Riva del Garda. It has a beautiful town centre with lots of winding, cobbled side streets boasting boutique shops and cafes selling gelato. It is also know for its 13th century clock towers - the Torre Apponale. For the small price of €2 you can climb the 165 steps to reach panoramic views of Riva and the Lake (Pics 6, 7 and 8). The final nearby town we visited was the fragrantly scented Limone del Garda. Here you can explore the lemon and orange groves, buy every lemon themed product under the sun, and of course enjoy beautiful views (Pics 9, 10 and 11). Special mention goes out to the delicious lemon ice cream served in frozen lemons! (Pic 12). We really did have a wonderful time and we spent a week exploring just one part of the Lake. There is so much more that we didn’t get to see and I have no doubt that it is just as beautiful. If you’re looking for a gentle pace, stunning scenery and historic towns - I couldn’t recommend Lake Garda enough. submitted by /u/izbiz88 [link] [comments]
- Help me choose a lake(s) to visit in Como area ItalyHey so I'm going in mid April (18 - 19/20) to Como and surrounding for 2 days. I'm arriving from Padova/Padua. But I read about Lake Orta dan Maggiore and wondering if those 2 are more worth it than Como? If going to Como I'm gonna go to Lugano. I've spent some time trying to organise all 3 lakes + Lugano but I'm worried it'll be too packed for 2 full days. Would it too ambitious for me to try and see all the lakes in one go? I'm even considering taking a day trip from Milan instead. I'll be using public transport since I don't think it's worth it to rent a car cause I'll be travelling solo. Thanks! - Should we go in Ravenna, Italy in August? In early to mid-August (from 4th to 10th of the month), my friend and I would like to visit Italy. We’re thinking of somewhere further north, as it’ll be hot and we’d like to be closer to the sea and enjoy the a little bit cooler air. We’ve been thinking about visiting Ravenna or Marina di Ravenna, having read online that it’s beautiful there and that there are various sights to see. At the same time, we’d like to relax – these are our holiday days and one of us will have a birthday during the trip – so we’re also looking out for any events or bars worth visiting. All in all, we’re looking for a mix of fun and leisure. Is it a good option considering our needs? We want to go somewhere that isn’t often visited, but it’s definitely worth it. submitted by /u/YLFTRD [link] [comments]
