Hey, adventure seekers! 🌟 We're a family of four excited to plan our first trip to South America, starting in vibrant Argentina! We’re looking for budget travel tips from experienced explorers to help us create an unforgettable 15-day itinerary. Our journey kicks off in Buenos Aires for the first two days, followed by three action-packed days at Iguazu Falls, then exploring the rich culture of Cusco and the breathtaking Machu Picchu. We’ll wrap up our adventure in Lima. Any advice would be appreciated!
I need advice from experienced travelers with knowledge of budget travel to South America. We are a family of four (spouse and two adult children).
We need help planning a 15-day itinerary.
We are considering starting in Argentina
Day 1 & 2 - Buenos Aires
Day 3, 4 and 5 - Iguazu (ideally, we would like to experience it from both sides, including Brazil)
Day 6, 7 and 8 - Cusco
Day 9 and 10 - Machu Picchu
Day 11 and 12 - Lima
Day 13 - End of trip and return

- First time in Argentina, stick to Buenos Aires or take overnight trips?Heading to Buenos Aires (and South America in general) for roughly 10 days next month. Two gringos in their 30s, largely focused on good food, good wine, and hitting up a few museums. Very torn between the idea of leisurely exploring Buenos Aires, maybe a day in Tigre or Colonia, or taking any of these trips: - Iguazu - Mendoza - Bariloche - Ushuaia I realize the weather in Bariloche or Ushuaia would obviously not be warm and sunny, but have always been a big fan of dramatic mountain landscapes. - 7 months in South AmericaHello guys, I am trying to plan for my long trip in South America. Normally I am extremely spontaneous but this trip involves som activities that need bookings in advance so I am trying to get a big picture: Patagonia and Antarctica. I have 2 options: Colombia (Oct) -> Peru (Nov) -> Bolivia (Dec) -> Brazil ( until mid Feb after carnival) -> Argentina/Chile (until end April): Patagonia in March and attempt for Antarctica. Peru (Oct) -> Bolivia (Nov) -> Chile (Dec), including Patagonia (end Dec or beginning Jan), then to Ushuaia for an attempt of Antarctica -> Argentina ( until mid Feb) -> Brazil ( mid Feb to end March) -> Colombia (April) I am torn between two options because each has pros and cons. Patagonia in option 1 will be crowded and pricey, for option 2, the weather is more unpredictable but the park is less busy and I could see autumn. For Antarctica, I am not sure about the last minute deals this year but have a bit of anxiety if I show up and ask at the end of season ( in March) Any thoughts? - 3 weeks in Argentina in May — looking for destination adviceI’m doing a 3-week solo budget trip in Argentina in May, and I’m trying to figure out where to spend an extra 5 days. My current plan is: Buenos Aires + Uruguay: ~6 days Iguazú Falls: ~3 days Salta/Jujuy: ~1 week So I’ve still got about 5 days unplanned. I’ve already spent over 6 hours researching and can’t decide, so I’d really appreciate any advice. A few places I’ve considered but feel unsure about: Mendoza: I’m not really into wine, and while Ischigualasto/Talampaya look amazing, they seem hard to do without a car (I don't have an international driver license unfortunately). Península Valdés: not sure May is a great time for wildlife. Bariloche: looks beautiful, but I’m worried it’ll be too cold and that transport might be more limited in May.
