Surprising my mom with a trip to Vietnam (or..)
Our take
Yooo!
I’m going to surprise my mom with a 2 week trip to Vietnam unless you can convince me to take her elsewhere!
She has never traveled anywhere outside of North America. I want to take her on an unforgettable adventure to a place she would never go. That has led me to Vietnam. I considered Japan, and am open to hearing other suggestions.
My current idea for Vietnam is to fly into Hanoi, do the Ha Giang Loop, cruise Halong Bay, then possibly fly to the south beaches or even Thailand for the back half of the trip.
But I want to hear some ideas! For Vietnam or elsewhere. I just want to give my mom the trip of a lifetime, because she’s the friggen best.
Planning for 12/26/26-1/9/27. Cheers!

- Travel ideas for an international 70th bday tripMy moms turning 70 this year and my sister and I are planning an international trip to surprise her for her bday present. We are coming the western USA, my sister and I are both in our late 20s/early 30s and our mom who’s turning 70 is very happy spirited, loves nature and seeing new cultures. Sister speaks fairly fluent Spanish, my mom and I both speak broken Spanish and otherwise only speaks English. We are not afraid of being out of our language (although it would make some things easier) but my main concerns are accessibility…my mom is able to walk but can’t do long distances and long or extreme treks are not in the cards. Also, she is a vegetarian (sis and I aren’t) so I want to make sure there are options for her. Looking for ideas on countries/cities that you’d recommend. We’re thinking a 3ish week trip, love nature, love local food/drink, don’t need high class staying arrangements as long as our 70 year old mom can sleep comfortably. As of now we are considering Italy, Spain, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Australia, Tanzania. Love to hear input! Thanks submitted by /u/ForrestWalker [link] [comments]
- Only have 10 days off - is Vietnam a good idea?Have PTO Aug 12-22, but am based in San Francisco so flight times are like 18-19 hours sometimes more. Wanted to see if it was worth trying Vietnam (I’m viet and have never been) or if I should do another country and save Vietnam for a longer PTO. Anyone do Vietnam in the same about of time? My mother is from Da Nang so that is pretty important for me to see. Any other countries in Asia to recommend? submitted by /u/fluffytruffle12 [link] [comments]
