Week in Albania?
Our take
Traveling solo can be one of the most empowering experiences, allowing individuals to discover new places, cultures, and even themselves. Take our friend from the article, who is planning a week-long adventure in Albania for her birthday. With a packed itinerary that includes stunning natural landscapes like Komani Lake and beach days in Himarë, this journey is a perfect blend of exploration and relaxation. For those who have also been bitten by the travel bug, this trip echoes the spirit of other solo adventures, much like those shared in First time to England! or Loved Chicago, what’s next?!.
Albania, often overshadowed by its Mediterranean counterparts, is becoming a hotspot for adventurous travelers seeking unspoiled beauty and authentic experiences. Our solo traveler plans to hop from Tiranë to Shkodër, then to Theth, Himarë, and Sarandë, making the most of her week. Each location offers unique opportunities for connection with nature, local culture, and fellow travelers. The decision not to rent a car is also noteworthy; it opens the door to public transport adventures, which can lead to serendipitous encounters and unexpected discoveries. This approach aligns with a growing trend among Gen Z travelers who prioritize experiences over possessions, embracing the journey as much as the destination.
One of the highlights of this itinerary is the emphasis on natural beauty and outdoor activities. The trip to Komani Lake, known for its breathtaking fjord-like landscape, and the overnight stay in Theth, a national park surrounded by towering peaks, showcases Albania's stunning scenery. Meanwhile, the beach vibes in Himarë and Sarandë provide a much-needed balance to the more rigorous hiking excursions. This duality of adventure and leisure captures the essence of what many travelers seek today: a chance to recharge while also seeking thrills. It's a reminder that travel doesn't have to be one-dimensional; it can be a blend of exploration, relaxation, and socializing.
As our traveler requests recommendations for local cafes, viewpoints, and sunset spots, we see a strong desire for connection—not just with the places she visits but with the community and fellow travelers as well. This reflects a broader trend in travel where individuals are seeking out authentic interactions over tourist traps. Engaging with locals and discovering hidden gems can turn a good trip into an unforgettable adventure. It's these shared experiences that foster a sense of belonging and connection, making the journey all the more rewarding.
Looking ahead, we can anticipate that this spirit of adventure will continue to resonate with solo travelers and those seeking to enrich their lives through exploration. As more people embrace travel as a way to celebrate their milestones—like birthdays or personal achievements—the travel community will likely become even more vibrant and inclusive. So, whether you're planning your own epic journey or reflecting on past adventures, remember to embrace the spontaneity and joy that travel brings. What new adventures await you? How will you connect with the world on your next trip? The possibilities are endless!
Hey all!! Sooo I will be heading to Albania for a week in early June for my birthday (almost 31F). I will not be renting a car as I’ll be solo. My plan is to fly in and out of Tiranë.
Day 0: land into Tiranë at 9:30pm
Day 1: pick up from Tiranë in the morning for tour (Komani Lake and Shala River) and drop off in Shkodër
Day 2: trip to Theth with overnight
Day 3: back to Shkodër at 7pm
Day 4: morning bus to Himarë, arrive lunch time
Day 5: full day in Himarë (boat tour/beach day)
Day 6: morning bus to Sarandë and maybe a trip to Ksamil in the afternoon and back to Sarandë for evening
Day 7: morning bus to Tiranë to wander around before flight home at 10pm
I know there’s a lot of moving around but I LOVE to see as much as possible.
Let me know if you would change anything about it??
Also if you have any recommendations of tours, touristy sights, viewpoints, cafes, lunch/dinner spots, places to go for sunrise/sunset in the towns/cities I will be visiting that would be amazing 🫶🏼

- 6 day trip to AlbaniaHey there! Im going on a trip to Albania, just me and one friend in about a week! This is going to be my first time travelling to a place without knowing anyone from there, so im very much used to having a local to show me around the best spots, the people, and avoid tourist traps, so im kind of scared of not being able to get the proper experience. With that said, we are spending 6 days in Albania, renting a car for the whole trip and we are bringing a tent and camping stuff. Me and my friend are usually a very go with the flow type of travelers but we would like to do some hikes (maybe even multiple day hikes?) that might take some planning ahead. Our main goal is to do some nice hikes, see the nature and small towns, find a way to spend some time with the locals and have some fun in the cities! We could go by some beaches but i dont thinks a big priority (We would rather swim in rivers and such) I've read a lot of stuff in this sub and other places online but, if you guys have any big recomendations and tips, also stuff to avoid, please say so!!! Many thanks!! submitted by /u/Deep-Contribution-51 [link] [comments]
- Albania Itinerary FeedbackHey all, would love some thoughts on my May Albania road trip. Current itinerary looks like this: Tirana, 5 nights/3 days arrive very late night 1. includes a day trip to Kruje. rent a car on my way out. Saranda, 5 nights/4.5 days day trip to Gjirokaster. day trip to Ksamil and Butrint. possible day in Himare or Dhermi. Berat, 2 nights/~2 days some combo of exploring the city, a winery tour, Bogove. I'm unfortunately skipping the north. I live in a place with a lot of that kind of nature and I'd rather come back when I can do the hikes that are gonna be closed. Otherwise, I love hot areas for nightlife, great beach and water activities, and plenty of aimless wanderability. Great culture, architecture, history as well but that should be pretty well covered regardless. - Anything feel egregiously absent from my itinerary? - I hear Dhermi and Himare can be kinda dead until June, worth part of a day or even a night? - Any recommendations for paddle boarding or kayaking in the Riviera outside the easier to find tour options? - Anything actually worth exploring Saranda itself for other than using it as a base? submitted by /u/SantaClausDid911 [link] [comments]
- Where to stay in Albania? Recommendations and advice appreciated!Hi everyone! I hope this is on-topic for this sub. I hope you can help me with some recommendations. Its the first time Im visiting a country I have no knowledge of whatsoever (very exciting) and need to find an area in Albania to stay in this summer for a beach/pool vacation. Details: I can fly to either Tirana og go by boat to Saranda on arrival. I would like to avoid renting a vehicle, since I dont particularly feel safe driving in foreign countries. This means I need to stay relatively close to these cities. My partner would like to feel some luxury (not like super intense, just a little bit) but we are still on a budget. We both really need a relaxing vacation with sun, swimming and good food, but we also want to be able to go for a day trip out and see some nature and do smaller hikes, or visit some of the old cities. We are planning to leave for 10-ish days. I am really looking for specific advice for cities, beaches, hotels etc. (or the opposite if some places should be avoided). Advice on good hikes, good food etc is also very welcome - but might be difficult since I dont yet know what part of Albania we’re staying in. I hope for your help, advice or tips! ☀️ submitted by /u/LifeStorm789 [link] [comments]
