Best time to go to Italy???
Our take
Okay need some advice...
We’re planning a trip to Italy and wanna do Amalfi Coast and Rome. The main thing we’re excited for is Amalfi....like beach clubs, swimming, boat rides, all of that. But we also wanna spend some time in Rome and explore.
At first I was like obviously summer… but now I keep seeing people say August is insanely hot and “unbearable”.
I don’t mind heat if we’re at the water, but I’m more worried about Rome and walking around all day in the heat. Is it actually that bad or are people being dramatic??
We're looking at September but it looks more expensive, and I’ve seen mixed things about the weather. October seems cooler which sounds nice for Rome, but I feel like it might take away from the whole Amalfi beach vibe.
However, if September really IS the best month to go, we will go with September. Just trying to see if it's absolutely necessary to spend the extra $$$ to go that month.
So basically:
- is August actually miserable or still worth it?
- does Amalfi feel fine since you’re by the water?
- what would you pick between August, September, or early October?
Where we're from we're used to warm weather, just not the crazy humidity.
any advice or experiences would help!!!

- Italy Places to visit around Almafi that aren’t over crowded late JuneHi everyone! I’m planning a trip to Italy for late June and would love some advice from people who know the area well. We are a group of 4 (2 couples) and are in our late 20s. We fly into Florence and fly out of Rome. We plan to train south to attend a wedding in Puglia. So, we’re looking for suggested places to stay for 5 nights in between Florence - Puglia. Right now I’m considering places like Sorrento, Procida, Ischia, and Salerno. Would love to be close to the ferry to see the Almafi Coast from the water. Also open to great hidden gems as well! Here is a snapshot of our plan: \-Florence/ Tuscany 3 nights \-??? 5 nights \-Fasano/Ostuni 3 nights \-Rome 2 nights We enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, boating, and beach hopping and hope to explore authentic restaurants and bars. All suggestions are welcome. Thank you! (: submitted by /u/Substantial_Arm_6648 [link] [comments]
- Should we go in Ravenna, Italy in August? In early to mid-August (from 4th to 10th of the month), my friend and I would like to visit Italy. We’re thinking of somewhere further north, as it’ll be hot and we’d like to be closer to the sea and enjoy the a little bit cooler air. We’ve been thinking about visiting Ravenna or Marina di Ravenna, having read online that it’s beautiful there and that there are various sights to see. At the same time, we’d like to relax – these are our holiday days and one of us will have a birthday during the trip – so we’re also looking out for any events or bars worth visiting. All in all, we’re looking for a mix of fun and leisure. Is it a good option considering our needs? We want to go somewhere that isn’t often visited, but it’s definitely worth it. submitted by /u/YLFTRD [link] [comments]
- Help me choose: Amalfi Coast vs Tuscany!Hi! I'm planning a 10 day trip to Italy in early July with my boyfriend. We're definitely starting in Rome and ending in Sardinia (we love beaches), but can't decide between Amalfi Coast and Tuscany for the middle part of the trip. Amalfi coast: we'd stay in Sorrento, explore Positano, see Pompeii, and do a Capri boat trip, but I'm worried it might feel repetitive to Sardinia. Tuscany: I'm concerned there won't be enough things to do besides driving around the countryside and visiting the towns (San Gimignano, Siena, Val d'orcia). We're more into activities than just exploring, and not big city people (we'd only spend ~1 day in Florence). That said, Tuscany just seems so unique and beautiful and like a quintessential Italian experience, so I'm worried about missing out on that. What should I choose? Any activity suggestions for Tuscany? Thanks!! submitted by /u/Frosty_University274 [link] [comments]
- Italy: Palermo vs Amalfi Coast vs PugliaCiao a tutti. I'm travelling to Southern Italy with a few friends from early to late August. Spending a few days in Rome and a few in Naples, but for the next stop we can't decide on Palermo, Amalfi Coast, or Puglia. I've heard that Palermo is a great base and that it's a good place to experience local culture, nightlife as well as lots of pretty beaches surrounding it. I've heard similar things about Puglia except that the nightlife and "picturesque" aesthetic is a bit dampened. Is Amalfi worth it? It would be great to see because it's so close to Naples but I've heard so many negative comments about how expensive and crowded it is. Bear in mind: we are on a tight budget and in our mid 20s. submitted by /u/Suitable_Mess9670 [link] [comments]
